2022 RIO BLANCO COUNTY FAIR DEDICATION

The Purkey Family“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”

~ Winston Churchill

The Purkey family has been involved in agriculture for over six generations and has contributed to our agricultural way of life in Rio Blanco County. John and Josephine Purkey started a strong family, with an extensive foundation and family tree encompassing many aspects of our daily lives. John and Josephine set the course for their preceding generations to continue their ag roots and become local business entrepreneurs and community leaders. As we reflect on the Purkey family, we can't help but be grateful for their support of the local 4-H/FFA youth programs and the Rio

Blanco County Fair. The Purkey family might be scattered from coast to coast, but they all keep in touch with their Meeker family by attending reunions now and then. This June, a large reunion was held to celebrate Bryce's life, just in time for the Rio Blanco County Fair to properly say thank you, to the entire Purkey family, for embracing their agricultural roots in the past, present, and future.

Welcome to the 2022 Bio Blanco County Fair. We’ve made it through another year and things seem to be to be getting back to normal, if we can remember what that’s like. Plans for a great County Fair starting with our County Shoot in Rangely on July 23rd. Then the Horse Show runs on July 29th & 30th but if you’re not into horses, you can mosey down to the Fairfield to watch the Cake Decorating Contest and Fashion Revue Show. Our 4-H kids are really creative and talented with these projects. August 1st starts the main Fair Week beginning with the Dog Show on Monday and includes setting up 4-H and Open Indoor Projects, Animal Weigh-Ins and lots of Livestock Shows throughout the week.

By Thursday night all of the Indoor winning projects are ready for viewing. On Friday there is a Talent Show in the Grand Stands and the 4-H/FFA Round Robin showmanship competition in the 4-H Building. Then everything culminates in the Livestock Sale on August 6th. There will be lots of other contests and activities for kids of all ages. Just check out the schedule in the following pages.

As you are walking around the fairgrounds, we invite you to ask our 4-H Youth about their projects. Have them explain to you how they became interested in their animal or their indoor project. How many years have been doing this type of

project? What was the hardest part of their project? What would they do differently next year? 4-H is all about learning and being able to demonstrate to others what they have learned along the way while completing their projects.

Welcome to the 101st Rio Blanco County Fair! This year’s theme is “Catching the Fair Bug” and for over 100 years, our county comes together to celebrate this time honored tradition. Our fair would not be what it is today without the continued support and dedication of our outstanding staff, volunteers, sponsors, auction buyers, and community partners. We are proud of the incredible work ethic, dedication and commitment our youth puts forth with their projects. We take pride in the many generations that have participated and enjoyed our past events and will continue to keep the next generation at the forefront to help guide their future success.

If you do not have a sheep, our Cloverbud leader has very loving, show ready sheep available for the contest with a small donation of $5.00 to our Cloverbud program. Our sheep lead is dedicated to buying all awards and mementos locally. We want our community to know that all donations we receive are put back into Rio Blanco County’s small business.
