THE RIGHT BULL. THE FINEST BEEF.
ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE
Ridgefield Farm
1:00 P.M. · April 26, 2014Gordon County Livestock & Youth Pavilion (aka Northwest Georgia Livestock Pavilion), Calhoun, Ga.
Lunch featuring Brasstown Beef at Noon. Proceeds to benefit the Southeast Whitfield FFA.
Dear Fellow Cattlemen,
There will never be a better time to trade in your old bull and buy a new one. With bulls bringing $1.10-$1.35 at the sale barn, you can’t afford not to trade up to the latest genetics. We sold a 2,000-lb. herd bull that failed a semen check at the end of March and he netted us $2,676.
Our farm has been in business since 1954 and this is our 15th year of selling bulls and offering the Ridgefield Farm Bull Deal. We make our entire living from the cattle and beef business – everything from
conception to consumption. We are a seedstock producer, operate a commercial cow herd, feed cattle
and sell beef. Given our unique position, we can’t afford to sell a bad bull. If we do, we have to live
with poor performing calves and inferior meat, if you choose to sell us your calves.
We breed for structural soundness, calving ease, heavy weaning weights, and fertile females that
have great udders and produce enough milk for a calf to express its genetic potential. We don’t own
a hoof trimming table and won’t sell a bull with bad feet. We have a very good set of bulls in this
offering, representing Angus, Braunvieh, BraunAngus and SimAngus. These bulls offer a range
of traits that will fit any cattle operation. Even though these bulls suffered through an extremely
cold and wet winter and their yearling weights suffered some, they are stout, hardened up and ready
to put with cows. The bulls are moderate framed, will be easy calving, and should sire calves that
wean off heavy and produce excellent females. These bulls have been thoroughly tested for standard
performance measurements, ultrasound and feed intake.
In addition to our own stock, we are pleased to offer a number of bulls produced by friends
of ours with whom we have long relationships, including Robert Williams of W/W Cattle
Company, Section, Ala.; and the Bagley’s of Bagley Farms, Cohutta, Ga.
Brasstown Beef, our branded line of beef, is available in Whole Foods Market stores throughout
the South, and will soon be in Ingles Markets. Brasstown Beef is also distributed by Buckhead
Beef and Sysco to fine restaurants and meat markets throughout the Southeast. Every piece of
beef that we sell comes from an animal that originated from our herd or the herd of a producer
who buys our bulls, then sells us their calves via the Ridgefield Farm Bull Deal. The premium we
pay for calves is $50-$75 per head more than if sold through conventional channels.
We want to sell you our bulls to provide you with superior genetics, whether you sell us your calves
or sell to another market. Sincerely yours,
Steve Whitmire
P.S. As a last minute addition, we are also selling 45+ females, including cow-calf
pairs, 3-in-1s and vet-confirmed bred cows.

Ridgefield Bull DealIt’s simple. You buy our bulls.
We buy your calves.
The Ridgefield Bull Deal pays a premium to customers with qualifying genetics for their calves, which assures us of a ready supply of high quality feeder calves for Brasstown Beef.®
These calves must work in every phase of the operation – from the day we get them until the customer enjoys our beef.
For commercial cattlemen with the right kind of cows, we provide a written contract with a guarantee to purchase, at a premium ranging from $6/cwt. to $9/cwt., your calves sired by our bulls. As a participant, you will save on shrink, commissions and transportation; avoid color discrimination; and receive feeding and carcass data. For more information on the Ridgefield Bull Deal, view the agreement at www.ridgefieldfarm.net.
General Sale InformationEPDs and Supplemental Information
All cattle data, EPDs and supplemental information were correct when the sale catalog was published. Additional information will be provided as a supplement on www.ridgefieldfarm.net by April 11, and in print on sale day.
Braunvieh EPDs are calculated using the Multibreed Evaluation Model with Angus as the standard base.
Breed Average EPDsBreed averages listed below for a comparison of individual
sale animal EPDs to breed at large EPDs.
Residual Feed Intake (RFI)Ridgefield Farm utilizes a GrowSafe System to obtain actual
feed intake data across a 70-day test period. RFI is the difference between actual intake and expected intake (calculated based upon the age, size, gain and sex of a given animal utilizing academically accepted metabolic formulas).
Cattle consuming less than expected feed are given negative values and those consuming more than expected are given positive values. The RFI data is then used in connection with the current cost of feed to calculate the actual increase or decrease in the cost of feed for each animal during the testing period.
In studies conducted by the University of West Virginia and the University of Missouri, heifers were retained from low RFI bulls for two successive generations. Both studies found that these low RFI sired females provided a significant opportunity to increase stocking rates from 12% in lactating cows to 20% for dry ones. Imagine being able to increase your calf crop by a minimum of 12% from the same land. Perhaps the best news is that long term studies have found no antagonisms to other traits.
Under our Bull Deal, we typically offer a premium of at least 6¢ per pound more than markets for similar cattle.
Terms & ConditionsTerms of the sale are cash or check with proper identification;
settlement must be made sale day and/or before sale cattle are released to buyers. Every lot will be sold to the highest bidder, with the auctioneer settling any bidding disputes.
