Ride to the Severn (Brian Mahony - 29 May 2020) For my ride on Friday 29th, the Severn Bridge beckoned. I set off over the hill to Trellech in yet more blue sky and sunshine. The stretch of road between Trellech and Llanishen always seems to reveal something interesting. I have seen curlew and skylarks, and this time it was the sight of a glorious Red Kite weaving around in flight as it did battle with two crows over a squirrel carcass. Crystal clear views towards the Blorenge and Sugar Loaf from the high road near Cobblers Plain. Spotted Chris and Tim emerging from Chepstow Park Wood at Devauden on their way to Wentwood and enjoyed catching up with them before continuing my long descent to Itton and Chepstow. It was good to be able to join the cycle path before High Beech Roundabout and to be out of the long traffic queues generated by the five-way traffic lights. It’s ages since I last saw anything like a queue of traffic, and there certainly seemed to be more vehicles about.
