JANUARY 2019 Richmond United Methodist Church

Volume 35/ Issue 1

As I write to you, Christmas is just a week away. The pressure is on

to finish all the "things" on our to do list. As you read this,

Christmas Day is past. All the things on our to do list have been

completed, or let go of. It is a respite of time in which we can take

a deep spiritual breath to rest and reflect on Emmanuel, God With

US.

God is with us in our joy and in our sorrows. God is with us in our

faith and in our doubt. God is present in our selflessness and our

selfishness. God is present in our love and loathing. Christ is present

in our passions and complacency. The Holy Spirit guides us in wisdom and pricks the

arrogance of our souls.

There are no words to describe a Creator who loves their creation so fully. God, who is

willing to wait on us to choose love over hate, service over self, transformation over the

status quo. This is the character of the God who created us and continually calls our

name, the Christ who redeems us in the midst of our brokenness and sin. And the Holy

Spirit, who teaches us as we're willing to be taught, and offers comfort even when we

refuse to learn.

At times, the love of God overwhelms us, sometimes we wonder if God has forgotten

us. I don't know the condition of your soul as you read this. But God does! In this respite

time, my prayer is that we will discover anew the God who made us, the Christ who

saves us and the Spirit who guides us. There truly are no words to describes such

amazing love! May this truth be discovered and rediscovered in our souls as we take a

deep spiritual breath...Emmanuel is ALWAYS with us. Happy New Year, Beloved!

SINGLE LEADERSHIP

MODEL TRANSITION

Administering the ministry of the church

through the Single Leadership Council

focuses on engaging everyone in to

ministry. This structure encourages op-

portunities to be informed on what's

happening in Ministry, so that we are

better able to support and join in ministry

through our prayers, presence, gifts,

service and witness. On April 28th, July

28th and October 27th, we will

celebrate Unity In Ministry Sunday's

with ONE 10 a.m. service and

refreshments to follow to promote unity,

community and answer questions about

our ministry. Watch the newsletter and

bulletins for updates.
