The 17th European Symposium on Organic Chemistry (ESOC 2011) will be
held at Hersonissos in Crete, Greece, July 10–15, 2011.
EurJOC To Attend ESOC 2011
ESOC 17 is dedicated to organic chemistry and related areas, emphasizing the following topics: Total
Synthesis of Natural Products, Catalysis in Organic Synthesis, New Methods in Organic Synthesis,
Medicinal Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Supramolecular Chemistry, Synthesis of
Functional Materials, Physical Organic Chemistry.
Dr. Jennifer O’Donnell, Deputy Editor of EurJOC, will be attending this symposium and looks forward to
meeting you there. Also be sure to visit the Wiley-VCH booth in the exhibition area and look for copies of
EurJOC to take home with you.

The 16th IUPAC International Symposium on Organometallic Chemistry Directed Towards Organic
Synthesis (OMCOS 16) will be held in Shanghai, China, July 24–28, 2011. Chemists from around the world
gather to present and discuss the latest advances in organic synthesis with organometallic reagents, metal-
mediated or -catalyzed reactions, asymmetric synthesis and catalysis, structural and mechanistic aspects
of organometallics, and environmentally benign processes using metals.
Nobel Laureate and EurJOC author Ei-ichi Negishi will be giving a plenary lecture at this symposium.
Dr. Haymo Ross will be attending OMCOS 16, so take advantage of this opportunity to meet the Editor of
EurJOC!

Recent Press Release
When reactive oxygen species (ROS) hit the body,
vitamin E helps to prevent damage to tissues and
cells by acting as an antioxidant. The health
benefits of vitamin E are numerous, and in fact,
studies have found that people with higher levels of
vitamin E in their system have a lower risk of heart
disease and certain forms of cancer. A team led by
Thomas Rosenau from the University of Natural
Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna (Austria)
now describe their synthesis of a series of modified
vitamin E derivatives that show promise as dioxin
receptor antagonists in the European Journal of
Organic Chemistry.
