A-rhyming we will go,

A-rhyming we will go;

We’ll catch a _________

And then we’ll let him go!

Directions: Write the above text on sentence strips. Insert in a pocket chart. Use the picture cards to make the rhymes as you sing the song.

Rhyming Cut & Paste

Rhyming is a vital building block in your child’s development, even before she can read!

DIRECTIONS: Cut out the pictures and paste them on the Cut out the pictures and paste them on the corresponding rhyming mats (1-5). Say each picture’s name as your child glues them down. (Picture names are included.)


Mat 1: CAT


hat, rat, mat, vat, bat, & flat


Mat 2: BELL


smell, fell, shell, cell, well, spell


Mat 3: SHIP


lip, drip, rip, tip, whip, zip


Mat 4: TOP


cop, stop, pop, hop, mop, shop


Mat 5: BUG


jug, rug, mug, hug, plug, tug


Directions: Draw a line to the picture that rhymes.


Clip a Rhyme

Print off onto cardstock, cut apart into strips like the example below & laminate for durability.

Directions: Child identifies the first picture, names the other pictures, then uses a clothespin to clip the one picture that rhymes with the first one. (Example above: bee- child would clip tree)

Open-Ended Rhyming Picture Cards

I made up these color rhyming picture cards to have for use making a rhyme any time!

Here are a few ideas:

•Rhyming Memory Match•Put out two cards that rhyme and one that •Put out two cards that rhyme and one that doesn’t and see if your child can find the one that doesn’t rhyme.•Sort them on a pocket chart by rhyme•Have fun and create your own rhyming games!
