Future applications for RFID in education

Q&A Session

In the beginning we had bar codes...

• Passive visual tags• "symbologies" are used

to encode small strings of character data like morse code (spaces and lines)

• ‘Dumb’ tags that need a line of site to read them

Page 5: RFID Learning and Discovery embedded in our surroundings

Then came 2D barcodes

• QR CodesQR Codes Large world movement, very popular in Japan

• Two dimensional, more data storage than 1D bar codes

• Still passive and visual

• Also requires a line of site to reader

Who uses RFID in education?

www.rfidlearningtable.com.au

• Used in training workshops so learners can easily access short segments of audio visual information by swiping a card over the RFID reader

• Embedded in places of employment as a just in time training tool

• Trials in the Hobart Botanical Gardens
