The problem is day by day increasing. At the same time, the conventional method of taking attendance in every lecturer / lab by calling names / roll numbers or signing on paper is very time consuming, unsecured, inefficient, difficult and monotonous for faculty. Their valuable time is wasted in taking attendance. Therefore many times proper attendance is not taken by the faculty. Also proxy attendance is always a problem in most of the campuses. Government & statutory bodies are also insisting Institutions for full proof attendance system. Further compilation of attendance reports and communication with parents is further a tough activity for Institute Administration. Even if a student is missing the classes for almost 15 days, in-time communication in the existing manual attendance system without any software is difficult task. Since Institute do not have a full proof attendance automation & monitoring system, there is a tendency of missing the classes by students which affects his Academic performance seriously. To solve all above problems & to manage the Student attendance in a most efficient way, Master Software Group, Nagpur has used RFID technology along with biometric technology & developed product RF-ATTENDANCE. RF-ATTENDANCE provides robust, secured and automatic attendance management in Educational campuses with minimum human involvement. Its ability to uniquely identify each student based on their RFID tag / thumb impression makes the process of taking the attendance automatic, faster and secured as compared to conventional method. RF-ATTENDANCE automates the whole system of students Registration & ID card printing, automatic attendance recording, data processing on Attendance Server, daily SMS to parents, Weekly & monthly attendance reports for teachers, MIS attendance reports….. INTRODUCTION TO RFID
What Is RFID - Radio Frequency Identification?
RFID is an acronym for Radio Frequency Identification - The use of wireless communications to establish the identity of a physical object. RFID term is used to describe a system that transmits the identity (in the form of a unique serial number – EPC – Electronic Product Code) of an object wirelessly, using radio waves. RFID technology provides wireless identification of people, books or assets. A RFID tag is attached to an object and contains information about that object.
RFID Components:
A typical RFID system is made up of three components: Tags (RFID ID Cards), Readers and the host computer system.
Tag (RFID ID Cards) : Tag is made up of an integrated antenna and memory. The information can be written and rewritten on Tag memory. The unique ID written on Tag while manufacturing is known as the EPC (Electronic Product Code). This Tag is enclosed in a Rectangular Plastic Card of the size of Bank Debit / credit card.
Reader : An RFID reader is a device that is used to read RFID tag data. The reader has an antenna that emits radio waves; the tag responds by sending back data stored in it to Reader.
Host Computer : It reads/writes data from / to the tags through the reader. It stores and evaluates obtained data and links the transceiver to applications.
No line of slight is required to read a RFID card / tag. So no need of Oriented reading like bar
code.
Multiple RFID Cards can be read.
No human error like bar code reading while reading a card. Can be read in any orientation.
Very Limited data can be stored in bar code.
 Re-usable for other purpose.
Different Types of RFID
There are several versions of RFID that operate at different radio frequencies. The choice of frequency is dependent on the business requirements and read environment. Three primary frequency bands are being used for RFID:
Low Frequency (125/134KHz) – Most commonly used for Attendance & access control,
High -Frequency (13.56 MHz) – Used where medium data rate and read ranges up to about 1.5 meters are acceptable. This frequency also has the advantage of not being susceptible to interference from the presence of water or metals.
Ultra High-Frequency (850 MHz to 950 MHz) – offer the longest read ranges of up to approximately 3 meters and high reading speeds.
RFID tags are further broken down into two categories:
Active RFID Tags are battery powered. They broadcast a signal to the reader and can transmit
over the greatest distances (100+ meters). Typically they can cost Rs. 500 or more and are
used to track high value goods like vehicles and large containers of goods. Shipboard
containers are a good example of an active RFID tag application.
Passive RFID Tags do not contain a battery. Instead, they draw their power from the radio
wave transmitted by the reader. The reader transmits a low power radio signal through its
antenna to the tag, which in turn receives it through its own antenna to power the integrated
circuit (chip).

COMPONENTS OF RFID STUDENT ATTENDANCE SYSTEM
A complete radio-frequency
identification attendance system
comprises of following hardware:
 RF-Attendance Software
 RFID Readers / Portals
 RFID ID Cards to students
 Computers, Networking &
UPS
 Bulk SMS facility
 Manpower for monitoring
HOW RF ATTENDANCE SYSTEM WORKS?
In LF – Low Frequency Attendance system, low cost LF card Readers are mounted either in each class room or shared between two or more class rooms or at common entrance. Student shows his LF ID card to LF Reader to mark his arrival & departure. The read range is just 5 Centimeters. In one minute, one Reader Readers reads around 15 students.
RFID device installed at various locations & are connected with the RFID Attendance
Server housed in the campus.
Every Student is given RFID ID CARD.
Student shows RFID ID Cards to Reader in every lecturer ever day.
Data is transferred to attendance server every 10 mins.
Faculty gets list of absent roll numbers before end of lecturer & faculty can verify the same.
The Attendance record is updated on Attendance web server. Parent & student can log-in
and view attendance or apply on-line for Leave so that Campus is aware of Leave in
advance.
They can also check Home work given to their ward.

Capture Student’s Photo : Student’s photos can be
captured in two ways. Either by scanning of students
photo submitted by the student along with the form or by
asking student to submit scanned image of his photo or
by having a photo session for all the students on the day
of admission.
Capture Student’s Signature : Student signature can be captured either by scanning his signature from application form or asking student to sign on Digital signature pad.
Scan left thumb impression : Student thumb
impression can be collected using a Thumb device at
the time of admission.
Other information of Student : Other information of
student which is to be printed can be taken from our
MIS. The Basic information required is complete name of
student, his course, his year & section, mobile no., Blood
group, Address for communication, Emergency number
for contact…
Printing RFID ID Card plastic card printer : Once the
data is compiled & ID card format is designed, Student
ID cards can be printed using Plastic card printer. The
advantage of printing with plastic card printer the printed
matter is all weather proof & colors will remain constant
for quite long period as compared to Laser / inkjet
printers.
Tagging of ID Cards & Registration in Attendance
devices : Each Printed Id card is to be Tagged in
Attendance MIS. This means the unique EPC –
Electronic Product Code of RFID ID card is to be
assigned to that student record in the MIS. This process
is called as Tagging. Once the tagging is done, all the
EPC codes tagged are transferred to all the LF card
Reader devices through Attendance server. This is ID
