Double nut machine tool line forFLM-E-B
The location of the double nut halvesby means of radial set screws isinnovatory. A conscious decision wasmade here to omit the usual additio-nal intermediate washers foradjusting the preload. Innovativeproduction technology makes thispossible.
Depending on the application, we willpreload the nut system to 7% or 10% ofthe basic dynamic load rating. Maximumrigidity values are reached.
Rexroth precision ball screwassemblies for machine tools
The starting point for this product line wasthe demand for ball screw assemblies withthe highest possible load rating andrigidity with, at the same time, high linearspeeds.
The ball raceway in the nut and screw wasoptimized for maximum rated load withrespect to ball diameter and racewaygeometry. Recirculating elements withtangential removal of the balls guaranteevery quiet running (even at the highestpossible linear speeds) and a constanttorque at low speeds.
At the same time, supplementing our maincatalog R310EN 3301 (2004.06), designsuggestions were incorporated for screwfixed bearings which ensure maximumload rating and rigidity. The design of thepin diameter and the axial locating face forthe bearing respectively have beenoptimized by means of friction welding,contact rings or a ball raceway which isnot ‘drilled through’.
The product line is rounded off by thelarge pillow blocks for screws larger than50 mm diameter.

Single nut machine tool series forFFM-E-B
With this single-nut flange, shiftingbetween two independent ballcircuits eliminates backlash with 2-point contact of the balls andspecified rigidity is achieved.
Accordingly, the screw has two ballraceways in the relevant version with leadsabove 20 mm.
Alternatively, preload can be achieved bymeans of ball sorting with 4-point contact.We will preload the nut system to 2% or5% of dynamic load capacity to suit theapplication and requirements.

Grease lubricationThe advantage of grease lubrication isthat the ball screw can run long distanceson one supply of grease. As a result, alubricating system is not required in manycases. The amount of grease used shouldfill the nuts to approximately half of theircapacity.
All commercially available ball bearinglubricating greases may be used.Read the lubricant manufacturer’sspecifications carefully! Never use greaseswith solid lubricant components (e.g.graphite or MoS2).
Oil lubricationThe influence of the temperature on theperformance of the ball screw is verysignificant, as the thermal expansion ofthe ball screw interferes with thepositioning accuracy of the assembly.
One of the advantages of oil lubricationover grease lubrication is therefore theminimized heat build-up of the ball screw,particularly at high speeds.
As a rule, commercially available mineralbase oils used for ball bearings aresuitable. The necessary viscosity dependson the speed, temperature and loadconditions of the respective application(see DIN 51501, 51517, 51519 and GfTWorksheet 3).
Oils ranging from ISO VG 68 to approx.ISO VG 460 are used in practice. The highviscosity grades (e.g. ISO VG 460) shouldbe preferred in general and particularly forslow running screws. A maximumrelubrication interval of up to 10 operatinghours can be attained with smallquantities from the table along side.

Standard lubrication practices for ballbearings also apply to ball screws.Lubricant loss is, however, greater thanthat e.g. from conventional ball bearingsdue to the axial motion between the screwand the nut.

Greases in accordance with DIN 51825K2K and, for higher loads, KP2K of NLGIClass 2 in accordance with DIN 51818 arerecommended for the longest possiblelubrication intervals. Tests have shownthat greases of NLGI Class 00 achieve onlyabout 50% of the running performance ofClass 2 at higher loads.The lubrication interval depends on manyfactors such as the degree ofcontamination, operating temperature,load, etc. The following values can thusserve only as a guideline.
