TubeCamden Town Underground station is near the markets and other attractions. It is a key interchange station for the Bank, Charing Cross, Edgware and High Barnet Northern Line branches. The station was not designed to cope with the volume of traffic it handles since the area increased in popularity. It is very crowded at weekends, and, as of 2010, is closed to outbound passengers on Sunday afternoons for safety reasons. London Underground has made many proposals to upgrade the station. Chalk Farm and Mornington Crescent tube stations also serve the area.

Regent's CanalThe Regent's Canal runs through the north end of Camden Town. Canalboat trips along the canal from Camden Lock are a popular activity, particularly in the summer months. Many of the handrails by the bridges show deep marks worn by the towropes by which horses pulled canal barges until the 1950s, and it is still possible to see ramps on the canal bank designed to assist horses which fell in the canal after being startled by the noise of a train. Camden Lock is a regularly-used traditional manually-operated double canal lock operating between widely separated levels. A large complex of weekend street markets operate around the Lock. The towpath is a pedestrian and cycle route which runs continuously from Little Venice through Camden Lock to the Islington Tunnel. A regular waterbus service operates along the Regent's Canal from Camden Lock. Boats depart every hour during the summer months, heading westwards around Regent's Park, calling at London Zoo and on towards Maida Vale. Sightseeing narrow boat trips run from Camden Lock to Little Venice.

RailCamden Road is a London Overground station at the corner of Royal College Street and Camden Road. The nearest National Rail station is Kentish Town station on the Thameslink route on the Midland Main Line. St Pancras and Euston terminals are also both within 20 minutes walk of Camden Town

CyclingCycling is the healthiest, cheapest and fastest way of travelling in London. An average journey of four miles in Central London would take a cyclist an average of 22 minutes – whereas travelling the same distance by car would take almost twice as long – 40 minutes. VelibThousands of bicycles will be available for hire from street-corner stands under a £500m programme to "transform" London into a cycling-friendly city.About 6,000 bikes will be available to useModelled on Paris

Hybrid Buses

Red buses are going green! Combining a conventional engine with an electric motor, hybrid buses are quieter, cleaner and more fuel efficient than standard diesel buses

Compared with conventional diesel buses, hybrids deliver considerable environmental benefits, including:

89 per cent reduction in oxides of nitrogen83 per cent reduction in carbon monoxide40 per cent reduction in fuel use38 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide30 per cent reduction in perceived sound levels (noise reduced from 78 to 74 decibels)The results show that these buses produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions and harmful local pollutants, as well as having lower noise levels

CarThe Congestion Charge has reduced traffic levels and allowed us to invest in improving transport in London. Since the Congestion Charge scheme started:Traffic entering the zone is 21 per cent lower than pre-charge levels (70,000 fewer cars a day)There has been a six per cent increase in bus passengers during charging hours£137m has been raised, in the financial year 2007/08, to invest back into improving transport in London. By law, all net revenue raised by the charge has to be invested in improving transport in London.

Increases in congestionSadly, congestion has risen back to pre-charging levels but would be much worse without the charge. The rise in congestion is also due to:Widespread water and gas main replacement works, which have greatly reduced the road capacityTraffic management measures to help pedestrians and other road users

Car clubCar clubs give people access to a vehicle on a pay-as-you-go basis.Economic - they help reduce congestion and parking pressures, particularly in new low-car housing developmentsSocial - they compliment the public transport system by providing accessibility to key services and facilities without the related costs of car ownershipEnvironmental - they help reduce car usage and the associated pollution

Many countries where immigrants come from were former colonies during the British Empire. There are often waves of migrations from these countries such as from the Caribbean (1950’s-1960’s). Between 1965 and 1972 immigration from India peaked. These might coincide with politics, or other events such as war.

Britain has special ties with parts of the world. During the British empire, Britain had colonies which meant that Britain was in charge of them. A colony is a country that is ruled by another country. Britain was known as the motherland.
