What does “Merciful” mean?• It CAN involved forgiveness, but does it have

to?• Always thinking of others’ needs• It’s about compassion and empathy• You should not do something merciful to

expect something in return• Acting merciful towards others shows a direct

love of God!

Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the

foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer

Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in

prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of

these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Matthew 25:34-40

Mercy: Why is it important?• Our mercy reflects God’s love for

sinners. Therefore as Christians we must care for others too• The REWARD is that we too obtain

mercy• In the Lord’s prayer we say “forgive

us our trespasses, as…”

How Can I Be Merciful?

• Where? At School, Home, Church, with Friends

• How? I can think about others’ needs I can pray for those needs If I see someone in school who needs a friend or needs help,

I can give it I can help my family around the house When someone hurts me or does something bad to me, I can

practice making excuses. I can try to see what it would be like if I was in their shoes and figure out why they acted that way

“Blessed is he who understands the poor and needy; The Lord will deliver him in an evil day. May the Lord keep him, and give him life, And make him blessed on the earth, And not deliver

him into the hands of his enemies”Psalm 40:1-3
