Why a vending machine?

• Holds multiple items

• Desired item requests user input

• Stored address for requested item

• Utilizes carousel to place item in front of user

• Releases item

Past, Present & FutureVending machines were devised as a convenient way to keep employees in their associated buildings. Negating the need to leave work for self sustenance, vending machines kept the workers at work which in turn reduced break times and increased productivity. The first modern machine came into circulation in England in the early 1880’s and was first produced in the USA by the Thomas Adams Gum Co. in 1888.These machines have fully integrated into our society, catering to consumers of all demographics, and can be found everywhere including churches, schools and golf courses.Currently Japan has the most vending machines per capita with approximately 1 machine for every 23 persons.

Feature: Carousel

Highly customizable: holds between 45 and 225 items on a rotating shelving system

• Plan to implement carousel into our design

Page 6: Reverse Engineering: Shopper 432 Vending Machine Spice Carousel Team Brian Mason Samuel Fuga Joseph Berceau & Suleiman Alshumemry.

Feature: Drive and Rotation Assembly

• Uses drive assembly to create higher torque at a lower speed

• Drive engages gears to rotate bottom plate and rotates to desired address

• Item shelves stack on top bottom plate

This is identical to how we wish to rotate our carousel. The difference being the gear and drive will be inside the perimeter of the base plate

Feature: User Input

• User enters desired item in keypad

• Signal is sent to Controller for processing

We plan to implement speech recognition as the user input, but the signal send to be processed will contain the same information

Feature: Controller

Controller takes validation from monetary entry and activates dispensing relays based upon the user input

Our design will work in a similar manner, processing user input, however activation will immediately follow user input
