TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Motive motors are built according tointernational standard regulations; eachsize throughout the construction formsis calculated with reference to the tablesof standard IEC 72-1.

The shapes built per IEC 34-7, are B3,B5, B14, B35.

Motive asynchronous three-phase Delphiseries motors are closed, and externallyventilated. The frame, up to 132 included, is madein die casting aluminium alloy, from size160 up to 355 the frame is made in castiron.

All motors aremultiple voltagemulti-frequency 50/60Hz,F class insulation,S1 continuous duty service,IP55 protection1 or 2 efficiency classtropicalized.

motive motors adopt only bearings selected fortheir silence and reliability and, for the sameobjectives, the cage rotor is dynamically balancedaccording to IEC 34-14 and ISO 9921 norms

Blocking the bearings intotheir slots with snap ringsprevents them frommoving axially. From type90, a steel insert isprovided in the bearing slotof the aluminum flanges,to res is t to rad ia lmechanical forces with afair degree of security

The copper is impregnated with adouble layer of H class insulatingenamel to ensure high resistanceto e lectr ica l , thermal andmechanical stress. The phases are further isolated byanother layer of Nomex film toprotect the motors from the voltagepeaks that usually occur when themotor is controlled by an inverter.

Aiming the maximumprotection, the motorsare equipped withimportant details like thepull-resistant cable pressand the combination ofbearings with two shieldseach with rubber sealrings

Performance excellence is granted by theFeV magnetic lamination sheets adoption, instead then the usual normal FeP01,FeV lamination sheets provide higherefficiency, lower heating, energy savingand longer life to isolation materials

To protect them by the rust, motive motors are painted ins i l ver RAL9006 colour

Feet and connectionbox can be movedto the right or left

Cable press can beeasily moved on both thesides of the connectionbox, thanks to the screwcap

the connectionbox can berotated of 360°with steps of 90°

There are no requestsabout minimum efficiency, but it is defined clearlywhich are the motorsclassified efficiency 1, 2and 3.Motive has organized itsproduction respecting theparameters indicated bythe new Europeanclassification.Client’s benefits are ofmany kinds

The European Agreement issued by the European Commission and CEMEP (European Committee of Manufacturers of Electrical Machines and Power Electronics), establishes a newclassification system of electric motors based on the efficiency. The reference values are shown by the attached diagram and the following paragraph.

EFFICIENCY

BILL EFFECTSBill effects are the first to be inevidence. The calculation changesd e p e n d i n g b y t h e u s ecircumstances, but we can saythat efficiency 2 motors allow asaving of about 20%. For instance,a 15kW motor, for an operationperiod of 6.000 hours per year, can save about 2 MWh/a ormore: about 100 Euro of yearlyoperation costs

DURABILITY EFFECTSHigher efficiency motors heat less, slowing down the aging cycle of theinsulating materials and living longer.Average operating life of Eff.2 Motivemotors is:2500 hours/ year for motors upto 15kW4000 hours/year for bigger motorsThe average life is approximatelyfrom 25 to 30.000 hours for thefirst and 50,000 for the secondones

AMBIENT EFFECTSEfficiency 2 motors guaranteegreat energy and money savings, with an objective of sustainabledevelopment, reduction of CO2emissions and consequentimprovement of the quality of theatmosphere

HOW TO MAKE A MORE EFFICIENTMOTOR?High efficiency can be seen in manyways: like the relation betweenoutput power and input absorbedpower, or like a measure of thelosses that born when convertingthe electric power in mechanicalenergy. From another perspective, highefficiency motors consume lessenergy to produce the same torque

Instead, no standard prescribes amaximum loosing factor for Fe P01lamination sheets; although we cansay that generally this is at leastthe double of FeV laminationsheets, not even this data can beguaranteed. This is a source ofpotential performance diversitiesbetween motor and motor.

The reason of a longer life is basedon the lower heating that lengthensthe ageing cycle of the insulationmaterials.

Between all the raw materials thatcompose an asynchronous electricmotor, lamination sheets iron ist h e m a i n p e r f o r m a n c ediscriminating factor.

The main advantages given by theadoption of silicon magneticlaminations are:• higher efficiency• better guarantees on the quality

constancy, assured bytolerances reported ininternational norms

on the shaft. Basically, an highefficiency motor is the result ofprecise workings, lower frictions,a dynamically balanced rotor, smaller space between rotor andstator and of the use of bettermaterials. The main factors forthe design are based on the choiceof the type of lamination sheetsand windings with a greater coilnumber and a bigger diameterwire..Among all materials that composea motor, laminations have thehighest influence on performance

SILICON MAGNETIC LAMINATIONSMotive motors are made with FeVmagnetic lamination sheets, ratherthan the customary normal Fe P01iron lamination sheets.

Further than raw material, thesheets thickness is anotherperformance source. In fact, the thinner is the sheet, the higher are the performances.

The lamination sheets Fe P01can reach up to 1mm thickness.

FeV magnetic lamination sheetshave a 0,5mm max imumthickness.

Composition and thickness give tomagnetic lamination sheets a verylow W/Kg loosing factor:

Lower specific losses mean lessmagnetising current for the samePower and torque (thus lessheating).

DUTY SERVICE

All Motive motors shown in this catalogueare made for S1 continuous duty service,as per IEC 34-1 norm. The duty serviceclass is shown on the rating plate.Below are described the various types ofservice:

S1 - Continuous service:operating at constant load of durationN in order to reach a thermal balance.

S2 Limited-duration service: operating atconstant load of duration N, less thanthe time necessary to reach a thermalbalance followed by a rest periodsufficient in order to restore the balancebetween the machine temperature andthat of the cooling fluid, with a toleranceof 2° C.

S3 Periodic intermittent service:sequence of identical operating cycles, each including a period of operation atconstant load N and a rest period R.In this type of service, the cycles issuch that start-up does not significantlyaffect the peak temperature.

S4 - Periodic intermittent service with start-up: sequence of identical operatingcycles, each including a substantial start-up stage D, a constant-load operatingperiod N and a rest period R.

S5 - Periodic intermittent service with electricbraking: sequence of operating cyclesas for S4, with the addition of a rapidelectric braking F.

S6 Uninterrupted periodic service withintermittent load: sequence of identicaloperating cycles, each including aconstant load operating period N anda no-load period V.No rest time is included

S7 Uninterrupted periodic service withelectric braking: sequence of operatingcycles as for S5, but without a restperiod

S8 Uninterrupted periodic service withcorrelated load and velocity variations:sequence of identical operating cycles, each of which includes a constant-loadoperating period N corresponding to apre-set rotation speed, followed by oneor more operating periods with otherconstant loads N2, N3, et.,corresponding to different rotationspeeds. There is no rest period.

S9 Service with non-periodic variations inload and speed: service in which theload and speed generally vary in a non-periodic fashion within the admissibleoperating field. This service includesfrequently applied overloads which maybe greatly superior to the full load.

WORKING CONDITIONS

HUMIDITY:The electrical equipment must be able towork with a relative humidity between 30and 95% (without condensation).Damaging effects of occasional condensationmust be avoided by adequate equipmentdesign or, if necessary, by additional measures(for example, built-in heating or air-conditioningequipment, drainage holes).

ALTITUDE AND TEMPERATURE:the powers indicated are intended for regularuse at altitudes below 1000 mt above sealevel and a room temperature between +5°Cand +40°C for motors having a rated powerbelow 0.6 kW, or between -15°C and 40°Cfor motors having a rated power equal toor greater than 0.6 kW (IEC 34-1): Forworking conditionsrather than those specified (higher altitudeand/or temperature) the power decreasesof 10% each 10°C of higher temperature, and of 8% for each 1000 mt of higheraltitude. It is not necessary to reduce the rated powerif at an altitude higher than 1000mt andlower than 2000mt there is a max ambienttemperature of 30°C or, in altitudes from2000 mt to 3000mt there is a max ambienttemperature of 19°C.

VOLTAGE - FREQUENCY:The maximum variation of the supply voltageis +-10%.Within this tolerance Motive motors supplythe rated power.

INSULATION:The copper is impregnated with a doublelayer of H class insulating enamel to ensurehigh resistance to electrical, thermal andmechanical stress.A NOMEX*/D.M./D.M.D./N.M./N.M.N./M. film that wraps entirely around the coilside insulates the copper and iron from oneanother. The phases are further isolated by anotherlayer of NOMEX*/D.M./D.M.D./N.M./N.M.N./M. to protect the motors fromvoltage peaks that usually occur when themotor is controlled by inverter.Below is a graph showing the operatingtemperatures possible for stator windingsbased on the insulation rating shown onthe machine plate

Motive motors are designed to not to passthe max temperatures of their class evenunder S1 continuous duty service.

ASSISTED POWER COOLING

For applications with a power supply below a frequency of50Hz, the appropriate assisted power cooling must bemounted as there are too many variables involved to determinethe various possible thermal duties, and thus the temperaturesreached by the motors

MOTIVE MOTORS PROTECTION

protections must be chosen based on thespecific running conditions, according tostandards EN 60204-1.

Protection for motors with a shaft powergreater than or equal to 0.5 kW withcontinuous S1 service. This protectionmay be achieved by means of a thermalcut-out relay, which automatically controla knife switch.

Protection against peak currents bymagnetic relay that controls an automaticknife switch, or by fuses; these must beset to the locked rotor current.

If the application requires, protectionagainst excessive speed of the electricmotor, for example if the mechanicalload may drive the electric motor itselfand thereby create a hazardous situation.

If special conditions or synchronisedoperation with other machines or partsof machines require it, protection againstpower failures or dips by means of aminimum voltage relay that controls anautomat ic power kni fe switch.

The electrical protections on the motorpower line may not be sufficient to protectagainst overloads. If the cooling conditionsworsen, the motor overheats but theelectrical conditions do not change, whichinhibits line protections. Installing built-inprotections on the windings solvesthis problem:

PTO bimetallic devicethis is a normally-closed electromechanicaldevice that opens electrically when thethreshold temperature is reached; itautomatically resets when the temperaturefalls below the threshold level. Bimetallicdevices are available with variousintervention temperatures and withoutautomatic reset, per EN 60204-1.

PTC thermistor devicethis device promptly, positively adjustsits resistance once the thresholdtemperature is reached. Motivemotors from type 160 to type 355Lare equipped with 3 PTC thermistorsin the winding, with temperatureintervention of 150°C in Class Fmotors (standard), or 180°C in HClass motors.

PT100 devicethis is a device that continuously, increasingly adjusts its resistanceaccording to the temperature. It is usefulfor constant measuring of thewinding temperatures using electronicequipment.

Delphi ATDC series self-braking motors use spring-pressure brakes, firmly spliced ontoa cast iron shield at the back of the motor. These motors include a series of characteristics normally considered options by otherbrands, like:The hand release lever permits to release the brake, making it possible to move theshaft. The separate brake power supply is achieved, whenever needed, by connecting directlyto the brake terminal board located inside the motor terminal box.The PTO thermal protectors in the winding

The adjustment is made by using thethreaded bushes , using a thicknessgauge to make sure that the wished airgap is reached.

Braking torque adjustmentThe braking torque can be increased by tightening the adjuster screws . The settinghas already been made by motive at the max value, and therefore we suggest to notto intervene on it.

Two different types of adjustment are possible

S air gap adjustmentFor proper operation, the air gap S between electromagnet and the mobile armature must be between the following indicated limits:

When the power supply is interrupted, theexcitation coil is no longer powered andtherefore doesn’t exert the magnetic forcenecessary to restrain the mobile armature, hwich, pushed by the pressure springs, compresses the brake disk againstthe motor flange on one side and thearmature itself on the other, thereby creatinga braking action.

The Delphi ATDC series brake is anelectromagnetic brake with negativeoperation, whose braking action is exercisedin the absence of power supply. The brake insulation class is F.The brake lining is asbestos-free, as permost recent EEC Directives in terms ofWorkplace Hygiene and Safety. All brake assemblies are protected againstcorrosion by painting and/or heatgalvanizing. The parts most subject to wearare treated in special atmospheres thatprovide considerable wear resistance tothe parts. The standard supply voltage of the brakeis 230V±10% 50/60Hz on the AC of the brakepower pack

DELTA CONNECTIONDelta connection is obtained by connecting the end of aphase with the beginning of the following one.The phase current Iph and the phase voltage Uph arerepectively:Iph = In / 3 -2Uph = Unwhere In and Un are referred to Delta connection.

WIRING DIAGRAMS

Motive three phase motors can be connected “Star” or “Delta”.

STAR CONNECTIONStar connection is obtained by connecting together theterminals W2, U2, V2 and supplying the terminalsU1, V1, W1.The phase current and voltage are respectively:Iph = InUph = Un / 3 -2where In is the supply line current and Un is the supplyline voltage of Star connection

The general electrical specifications are listed in the performance charts that follow. To understand their contents, the following general definitions are provided.

TECHNICAL DATA

Motive motors can face also temporaryoverloads, with Current increases of1.5 times the rated current for at least2 minutes.

Starting current (or locked rotor current):In the performance charts the startingcurrent “Is” is indicated as a multiplevalue of the rated current (Is/In).

Synchronous speed:is expressed in rpm and it is obtainedby the formula

f 120/pf= supply frequency Hzp= number of poles pairs

Rated Power:it is the mechanical power measured atthe shaft expressed, according to thelatest indications of internationalStandards Committees, in Watts orKwatts. However, in the engineeringsector it is still common to refer topower in terms of HP

Rated Voltage:the voltage to be applied to the motorterminals in accordance with thespecifications in the following tables

Frequency:All electrical data in this catalogue referto three-phase wound motors at 50 Hz.These may be connected to 60 Hz,taking into account the multipliercoeff icients in the table below

Rated Current:“In” is the Rated Current, expressed inAmpere, absorbed by the motor whensupplied at rated voltage and giving theRated Power. In the following tables, therated currents are referred to a Voltagesupply of 400V. For other voltage suppliesthe absorbed rated current can beconsidered inversely proportional to thevoltage supply. EX:

Rated torque:Cn is expressed in Nm, and itcorresponds to the rated power andrated rpm. It is given by the It is givenby the multiplication of the force for thearm (distance) and it is measured inNm because the force is expressed inin Newton and the distance in metres. The rated torque value is obtained bythe formula

Cn (Nm) = 9,55 x (Pn/n)Pn= Rated power in KWn= rated rotation speed in rpm

Starting torque (or locked rotor torque):Cs is the torque that the motor canprovide with the rotor at a standstill andthe rated power supply.

Maximum torque:Cmax is the maximum torque developedby the motor at the rated power supply,at a certain speed. It represents also the value of theresistant torque after which the motorstops. In the following performance charts, itis indicated the relation betweenmaximum torque and rated torque andmaximum torque (Cmax/Cn)

Efficiency:η is expressed in % and it is given bythe relation between the output Powerand the addition of output Power andthe electric losses of the motor, that isthe input power absorbed by the motor. The electric motors losses are mainlyof two kinds: for joule effect (rotor andstator) and iron losses. The latest cause essentially heat.An higher efficiency means energysavings, lower heating, longer life ofinsulating materials.

Power factor or cosϕ:it represents the coseno of the voltageand current gap angle.

Noise:The noise is expressed in dB(A). Themeasures must be taken in accordancewith the standard ISO 1680-2, in orderto find the Sound Power level LwAmeasured at 1m of distance from theperimeter of the machine.EN 60034-9 standard describes theacoustic Power limits to be respected, indicating the maximum sound powerlevel LwA. The noise values indicatedin the performance charts that followare referred to a no-load motor working, supplied at 50Hz and with a toleranceof +3 dB(A).

The moment of inertia can be calculatedin this way:J = (1/2) x M x (R2)Where M [Kg] is the rotation mass, while R [m] is the ray of the volume atcylindrical symmetry.
