ST. ROSE CHURCH MAY 28,2017
Compromise. It's a word that evokes an in-stinctive response.
Hooray! We shout whenenemies compromise for peace. Boo! We hisswhen
a respected leader compromises theirethics. But even when
compromiaeds misused,we fiercely defend our right to that tiny
bitof flexibility. It isn't that we don't want tofollow rules or
hold the line, we just like alittle "fudge factor" when things get
too un-comfortable.Compromise wasn't a word Jesus had much todo
with. His call was direct and unarguable.When people squirmed or
waffled, Jesus sim-ply held the standard higher, just as in
to-day's Gospel. Ordered to gather on themountain, Jesus gave the
disciples directmarching orders: Go to all the nations!
Makedisciples and baptize! Get out there and tellpeople about
God.There wasn't any room for compromise onthat mountainside and
there still isn't anyfor His disciples today. We've been givenclear
instructions with no room to quibble.The question is, are we
following or fudging?++++++++++++++++++++++++
