NAMALAKA NEWS—MAY DAY (Part 1) On May 1st our Sister Parish St. Joseph in Namalaka, Malawi celebrated the feast of St. Joseph, the patron
saint of workers. John Phiri the school headmaster shared the following thoughts with us: “Today is the 1st of
May! Pope Pius XII expressed his desire that on this day we should celebrate the dignity of human work. The
patron saint for all workers is St. Joseph the husband of Mary. He belonged to the kingly family but he decided
to work as a carpenter. God as well worked for six days as He created the world. We, too, must learn to work.
Work is dignified because in working we become co-creators with God. May we all unite to fulfill God’s call of
making the world a better place to live.”

PROGRAM QUIZ
OF THE MONTH Our spiritually
adopted babies are
now four months
old. Facial expres-
sions similar to the
baby’s parents can
be seen at this
time. This month
REMS (rapid eye
movements) have
been recorded—a
sign of dreaming.
The quiz question
of the month is:
How many liters of
fluid a day are sent
to the baby via the
umbilical cord? For
the answer to this
question, check the
kiosk in the Narthex
with the beautiful
picture each month
of our developing
little one.

Prayers of Thanksgiving Today would be a good day to give thanks for our mothers. It isn’t easy to be a moth-er. Make a little Mother’s Day card with a list of what you are thankful for, especial-ly the ways she helps you. You know who else appreciates being thanked? God does!
Jacob and Esau part 2 Jacob and Esau parted from each other because Esau was really mad that Jacob had sto-len his birthright. Jacob thought it best to go to a fara-way land. He settled down and married, and had 11 sons and at least one daughter.
Muchos años después, Jacob había ganado mucha riqueza tra-bajando para su suegro. Y dios le había bendecido a Esau también. Un día cuando Jacob y su familia estaban en camino de regresar a su país, encontró a su hermano.
What a wonderful change had come over these two! Now they were glad to see each other. Esau completely forgave his brother Jacob.
John the Baptist Gets Confused It isn’t easy to know exactly what God wants us to do. John the Baptist baptized Jesus in the Jordan river. A few months later he was thrown into prison by wicked King Herod. While sitting in prison he had time to think.
Tenía preguntas para Jesús. “¿Eres tu el que ha de venir, o esperamos otro?” Jesús le contestó, “Los cie-gos ven, los cojos andan, los lep-rosos quedan limpios, los sordos oyyen, los muertos resucitan.”
This message brought peace to John’s heart.
