Background of the studyBackground of the study

• Investment in education has significant return therefore countries are paying especial priority in allocating budget in education

• Most researches put effort to understand the return to investment in education in terms of financial benefit

• Scholars argue that even the economic return of education is low, social return is high.

• However, economic and social development are interrelated and one influence the other.

• We considered both school and out-of-school education.

• What is the contribution made by different level of Education?

• What is the contribution made by school system and out of school system of education?

• What is the disparity in selecting the aims of education provided by the different providers?

• What is the gap in the school system in contributing desired level?

• How can school system contribute more significantly?

MethodologyMethodology

• Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used to collect data.

• Techniques: Survey and interview• We surveyed 1376 respondents – based on

various level of education and job types. All the respondents were in job.

• Of the respondents of survey, 176 had no formal education, 247 were primary graduate, 219 were secondary, 231 were higher secondary and 503 were higher educated.

• Interview was done with 200 respondents.

• Of the interviewees, 46 had no formal education, 37 were primary graduates, 32 were secondary, 47 were higher secondary and 38 were higher educated.

• Quantitative data were used to explore the perception and qualitative data supplemented in this regard.

• Academic and scholars were not included as we dealt only with the workforce.

• Contribution of different grades of education in economic and social return:

• Contribution of primary graduates: 12.1

• Contribution of only secondary graduates: 12.6-12.1 = 0.5

• Contribution of only higher secondary graduates: 15.4-12.6 = 2.8

• Contribution of only tertiary graduates: 13.5-15.4 = -1.9

Findings contd….Findings contd….• Conclusion:• Legislators should explore the potential employment

market within national and offshore and manpower will be developed with the view to the projection.

• Country shall not produce huge number of higher educated individuals than its need.

• Rules should be restricted for the professional to work in their receptive field explicitly.

• Increasing budget for in-service training is required.• Rules should restrict the out-of-school provisions from

providing education contradictory with school system and culture of the country.
