Since its creation in 1973, the Lottery has generated more than $13.3 billion in revenue to support public K-12 and higher education; environmental programs; public health and safety.

FY 2013 Lottery budget highlights include: • Prizes paid to players: $1.03 billion. • Commissions earned by retailers: $119.8 million. • Retail sales commission increased to 5.5 percent Jan. 1.

Thank you for helping the Maryland Lottery raise money to support the good causes of the state.

Retailers in Carroll, Frederick and Montgomery counties are singing the praises of District Manager Charles Johnson, whose stellar work in two sales territories led to his selection as Lottery Rep of the Quarter. Johnson received the award at the July sales meeting. He joined the sales team on Feb. 2, 2013, as a floater, filling in for co-workers who go on leave and helping the Lottery meet retailers’ needs in vacant territories. No stranger to the field of sales, he has more than 15 years of experience at companies that include BGE Home, Comcast and ADT. “Charles has taken on managing Territory 14 (Carroll and Montgomery counties) very well,” said Regional Manager Valarie Blackwell. She nominated him for the honor, citing his excellent performance in “upgrading locations with new monitors, completing makeovers in Territory 12 (Frederick) and working with reps to complete their retailer makeovers.”

BOOST SALES WITH EXTERIOR SIGNS

In operation for more than 40 years, Lucky’s Deli and Market at 807 Crain Highway South in Glen Burnie attracts a steady stream of Lottery players hoping the luck in the store’s name will rub off. Store manager Anil Patel said customer traffic increased when he added Keno to his Lottery game lineup and hung promotional banners on the building’s exterior. “The name of the store does help sell tickets,” Patel said, “but since I put the banners up about a year ago, people are coming here a lot more. They didn’t know we sell all of these games.” He also revamped and expanded the Lottery play area inside the store to include overhead displays and a countertop packed with Lottery products. Patel works with Region 4 District Sales Manager Todd Cearfoss, whose territory covers Anne Arundel County retailers.

Lucky’s Deli and Market in Glen Burnie saw a boost in Lottery sales with this exterior signage.

Garrett County retailers Sid Turner and his partner Laurie Turner of Chestnut Ridge Gas and Liquors in Grantsville sold a winning $1 million Double Dollar Fortune scratch-off ticket this summer. A happy Sid Turner said the $1 million ticket was the store’s largest win to date. “We’re locally owned and operated and really appreciate everyone’s business over the last 18 years,” he said.

A busy High’s store in Westminster sold the $1 million winning Powerball ticket that hit on July 3, making an anonymous mother a millionaire. The Lucky Laugher video of our winner got so many hits on Youtube, Facebook and the mdlottery.com website the video was even picked up by Good Morning America! Go Terps! Starting this fall, we’re teaming up with the mighty University of Maryland football and basketball teams. Look for Maryland Lottery electronic and permanent signage at the Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium, home of Terps football, and at the Comcast Center, home of Terps basketball. Electronic messages will promote jackpots and responsible play and will highlight the Lottery’s contributions to the state budget. Our team sponsorship includes on-air mentions during play-by-play radio broadcasts and a full-page insert in both teams’ season program guides.

ANSWER:Call the Agent Administration department at 410-230-8720. Ask the staff to send you an “M-31” form, which is the Electronic Funds Transfer Authorization Agreement and Affidavit form. Fill out your part of the form and follow these steps:

1. Take it to your new bank or financial institution. Have the bank complete, certify and notarize the form.2. Void a check from an account at that bank.3. Fax the form and the check to the Lottery at 410-230-8728.4. Follow up by mailing the original form and voided check to the Lottery. You can have the bank create a letter with your account information if you prefer not to send a voided check through the mail.5. Wait for notification from the Agent Administration staff that the changes are in effect.

JOIN US! REGIONAL MEETINGS RETURN “My customers come in and sit here and visit,” Hahn said. “They play the Lottery and talk for hours. I really appreciate my repeat customers. They are 90 percent of my business.” To reward his loyal customers and to introduce his store to the community, Hahn hosted a Grand Opening on July 17. The event was initially scheduled to run from noon to 3 p.m., but with nearly 500 customers stopping by, Hahn kept the party going until 6 p.m. The crowd enjoyed refreshments and drawings for prizes that ranged from Maryland Lottery scratch-off tickets, umbrellas and t-shirts to a dozen leather jackets. Among those attending was John Martin, Lottery assistant director. “Everyone really enjoyed this event,” Martin said. “Clearly, Mr. Hahn has extensive knowledge of successful marketing and business practices. He’s one of our top retailers.” Anissa Carter, Lottery merchan-dising program manager, noted that Hahn embraces many of the Lot-tery’s suggested best practices such as providing adequate seating. “He created a welcoming place to stay and play.” Hahn’s store has more than just luck in its name. Several recent big-ticket wins include $50,000 on a scratch-off and $10,000 on a Multi-Match ticket. Lucky Lottery has already hit new records for draw sales of $22,000 a day and scratch-off sales of $2,000 a day. “I never broke $20,000 a day when we were at Best One Food,” he said. Hahn has truly found his good luck with Lucky Lottery. “We are very successful,” he said. “I really appreciate my customers.”
