June 2008 – July 2009 During Sabbatical Year, worked as Pavement Management Expert and Director of the Project “Road & Structural Survey & Evaluation Project” at The Ministry of Transport (MOT), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The prime responsibilities included the following: • Development of road information database to include collected data

from the survey and evaluation activities of Saudi road network.

• Manage the operation of the Road Survey Vehicles that included Automated Multi Laser Profiler Vehicle, Falling Weight Deflectometer, Friction Tester, Ground Penetration Radar, Bridge Inspection Vehicle.

• Development of an applicable scientific approach that enables precisely

locating different network sections depending on the global geographical coordinate system.

• Help in developing a new system for the maintenance contracts.

• Reviewing the presently used procedures to collect road survey and

evaluation data, and develop a computer program to analyze these data.

• Develop performance prediction models for roads in Saudi Arabia, and suggest procedures to use these models for maintenance prioritization and maintenance budgeting.

• Review presently used performance limits for the selection of the

different maintenance strategies.

• Develop procedures to include vehicle counting and truck weighing data in the MOT database and use these data in the developed performance prediction models.

• Study presently used skid resistance limits and suggest new limits to

suit Saudi environmental and road network conditions. Sep. 2001 – To Date Working as Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at Hashemite University, Zarqa, Jordan. The prime responsibilities include the following: • Chairman of Civil engineering department at Hashemite University

starting from September 2003 to September 2005. • Director of the Non-Destructive Evaluation Center. The center includes

up-to-date NDE test equipment, and performs all types of NDE testing, and research.

• Teaching Civil Engineering courses in the areas related to Pavement

Materials and Construction, Transportation Planning and Surveying. • Chairman of the College Library Committee, Vice Chairman of the

College Social Committee, Chairman of the department Laboratory Committee, and member in a number of department committees.

• Engineering College Representative in the University Council in 2001-

2002.

• Actively engaged in several funded research projects.

• In summer of 2006/2007, joined the "Faculty for Factory" program and worked for three months as a consultant for "Orient Crushing & Contracting Company".

research projects in fifteen Civil Engineering laboratories and in charge of about twenty laboratory staff.

• Supervising two Personal Computer laboratories owned by the Civil

Engineering department. • Working as a Co-Investigator for a Research Project funded by King

Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) viz. “Adaptation of SHRP Binder Specifications to the Gulf Countries.” The main objective of this project is to modify the Gulf asphalt to conform to SHRP specifications.

• Was actively involved in teaching Civil Engineering laboratories and

senior level B.S. courses related to Pavement materials and Construction. Sept. 1987 - Oct. 1989 Worked as a full-time Research Assistant in the National Research Project “Evaluation of Permanent Deformation of Asphalt Concrete Pavement in Saudi Arabia,” which was funded by KACST and supervised by the Ministry of Communications. Responsibilities included:

• Conducting and supervising all types of tests on pavement construction

materials, condition surveys, automatic traffic counting, deflection measurement and dynamic tests on pavement extracted cores, etc.

Mar. 1983 - Aug. 1987 In addition to being a Master student, worked as a Research Assistant in the Civil Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals. Assisted the transportation faculty members in their ongoing research projects viz. Signalization, Estimation Capacity of Khobar Intersections and Bridge Deck Cracking. In addition to this, conducted problem sessions for undergraduate students. Aug. 1986 - Aug. 1987 Worked as a part-time engineer in the National Safety Project entitled “Development of a Highway Inventory System Using Photologging,” wherein a movie camera was used to photolog traffic signs, and a data base program was developed to make an inventory for all the photologged signs. Apr. 1985 - June 1986 Was involved in the “Vehicle Taxation Project” as a part-time engineer with the transportation faculty of the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran. Work included the evaluation of pavement conditions and in using the personal computer for creating a pavement condition database.
