A separate minimum of D Grade for internal and external were required for a pass for a course. For a pass in the Programme a separate minimum of Grade D is required for all courses and a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or overall Grade of C+ and above. An indirect grading system based on a seven point scale instead of the existing direct grading pattern based on the five point scale was implemented for students who have admissions to the UG Programmes from the academic year 2013 onwards. Mark system was introduced instead of grading for each question. However, notional grading on the basis of marks were indicated for each semester. The internal to external assessment ratio for each course is 1:4. Overall grade for all papers will be provided on Seven Point Scale based on the percentage of total marks (internal + external) and it will be awarded only at the end of the academic programme. Grades for the different courses, semesters and overall programme are given based on the
corresponding GPA as shown above. A separate minimum of 30% marks each for internal and
external (for both theory and practical) and aggregate minimum of 35% are required for a pass for
a paper. For a pass in a programme, a separate minimum of Grade D is required for all the
individual papers. If a candidate secures F Grade for any one of the paper offered in a
Semester/Programme only F grade will be awarded for that Semester/Programme until the
candidate improves this to D GRADE or above within the permitted period.

Based on the academic performance, the undergraduate students in all stream of our institution
achieved an excellent overall pass percentage during the academic years 2012-13, 2013-14 and
2014-15. The overall pass percentage of the students during the academic year 2012-13 was 86%
-it was 88% in 2013-14 and 84% in 2014-15. However, the overall pass rate dropped from 84%
to 64% during the academic year 2015-16, which further declined dramatically to 48% in the
following academic year, 2016-17. This striking fall in the overall academic performance by the
students was an aftermath of the revised choice-based-credit-semester-system (CBCSS),
implemented by the university in the academic year 2013-14. The newly introduced indirect
grading system, where the assessment was based on the mark system instead of grading for each
question, has revamped the pattern and structure of the evaluation process. The two batches of
students were passed out, during the academic years 2015-16 and 2016-17, under this changed
patterns in the evaluation process.
A meeting was held on the reopening day of the academic year 2017-18 between Manager,
Principal and the concerned department class teachers to discuss about the corrective measures to
be taken wherever necessary for improving the academic achievements among the students, under
initiative of IQAC. The overall performance of the students were discussed in detail and
consolidated semester-wise result analysis for semesters I, II, III, IV and V of 2014-17 pass out
batch of individual programme were prepared and scrutinized.
The details of the semester-wise result analysis for each programme of 2014-17 pass out batch are
given below:

After a brain storming session, an action plan was chalked out to enhance the overall quality of
the students. The following were the remedial measures and strategies adopted by IQAC to
cope with the evaluation reforms of the university and thereby to improve the academic
achievements among the students at the completion of a programme:
Various curriculum enrichment courses and programmes were needed to be conducted.
To successfully implement the Scholar Support Programme (SSP), part of the ‘New
Initiatives in Higher Education’ initiated by the Department of Higher Education, Govt.
of Kerala that aims at imparting additional support to students in curricular areas of
weakness, in the institution.
Remedial education were to be given to weak students for improving the basic learning
skills. Bright students were to be given more challenging tasks as a part of advanced
coaching.
Annual academic audit to be conducted in every department mainly to evaluate the
students’ performance during the university and college examinations.
To organize tutoring and mentoring programmes by the tutors to facilitate academic
and personal counselling to their wards. The tutors to serve as mentors to their students in
order to support them in the development of their self- esteem, positive attitudes and
behaviour and to help them in setting goals.
The class teachers were requested to make house visit of those students who were
irregular in class and showed lack of interest in academics. Parents and their wards to be
counselled and their personal and family problems to be discussed during the visit.
Open house to be conducted after every internal assessment so as to review the
performance of the students and also to establish a better rapport between the class teacher
and the parents.
Weekly workload statement of every department to be submitted by the concerned
department HOD to the Manager to assess the teaching learning process and thereby to
take corrective measures, if any.
To organize Result Review Committee and Academic Review Committee to review the
academic performance of each department immediately after the publication of the
university semester exam results.
In addition to internal assessment programs comprising of internal exams, assignment and
seminars, conventional methods of eliciting answers by daily oral questioning, surprise
tests and revisions to be conducted by the tutors to monitor the student progress.
The aforementioned strategies and monitoring system were implemented in the institution by the
Principal, in consultation with Manager and the concerned department HOD for the benefit of
students. By strictly complying with these strategies and measures, a striking improvement in the
overall pass percentage was observed for the 2017-18 pass out batch. The overall pass percentage
increased by 17% from 48% to 65% during the academic year 2018.

The Achievement by the students of Baratha Mata College has risen significantly, especially in
the overall A+ grade. There was a whopping increase by 18 in the number of overall A+ grade
resulting in a total of 40 overall A+, including the class toppers of individual departments, in the
current academic year 2017-18, which was only a total of 22 and 16 during the previous academic
years, 2016-17 and 2015-16. The students achieved meritorious results in the year 2017-18 in the
university exam with a total number of overall A grade of 157 against the 91 in the previous year.
Few students exhibited outstanding performance by securing university ranks at the undergraduate
and post graduate level. Students of of M. Sc pharmaceutical chemistry Sruthi K and Sahala, Riya
Aliyas of M.Sc mathematics and Anu Jacob of M.Com secured 1 st, 3rd , 12th and 7th rank
respectively, in the university level in the 2017-18 post graduate examinations, whereas, Nikhila
Of B.Sc Mathematics and Pranav Raja of B.com bagged 8th and 7th position respectively, in the
2017-18 university examinations.
The overall pass rate of 2018-19 university examinations are 69.37% which is 4.17% higher than
the previous academic year results. The overall pass percentage witnessed an upward trend from
48.1% in 2016-17 to this year’s 69.37%. More than 65% students passed with 60% marks or above.
Moreover, the overall number of A+ and A increased to 47 and 162 in 2018-19 from 40 and 157
in 2017-18. Despite the fact that the number of A+ grades continued to increase steadily over time
with consistent overall pass percentage, couple of departments did not graduate at the same pass
rate as others in the academic year 2018-19. Few departments, namely Physics model-II and BBA

faced an unforeseen fall in the pass percentage of 48% and 66% in the academic year 2018-19,
against the 68% and 86% in the previous year, 2017-18.
Rigorous qualitative and quantitative result evaluation investigation has been initiated by the
IQAC cell not only to assess the discrepancies in the results but also to be deploy various stringent
remedial measures to be taken in the forthcoming academic years to improve individual student
performance as well as the overall pass percentage of these concerned departments.

However, the innovative teaching methodology and educational practices has surely helped the
students to use their full potential in achieving a holistic development including competency
enrichment and knowledge enhancement. It helped students to fare better in the university exams
with indirect grading system and to build up as well as maintain academic excellence at
undergraduate and post graduate level across the various programmes available in the institution.
The result analysis for the year 2017-20 batch has been initiated, with the scrutiny of the three
semesters being completed. This year, too, is expected with a better and higher results than the
