The world and the enemy bombard us with messages of how to explain, define and even make decisions according to our values of life. But God’s still soft voice as found in His Word must be our ultimate resource. Come and hear what God says about 6 key topics of life led by respected leaders in their field: (1) Sexual Purity (2) Infertility & Reproductive Technology (3) Crisis Pregnancy (4) Adoption & Foster Care (5) Planning your Departure Home (6) Biblical Approach to Life’s End. This event is free, open to the public and includes continental breakfast and lunch and will be held at Faith Community. Register at www.faithlasvegas.org. Final day to register! FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY Did you know that Financial Peace University (FPU) has impacted nearly 100 families at Faith Community? But even more remarkable is that a million dollars of net worth has been seen through these same families! FPU is often viewed as a ministry for people in extreme debt but this is simply not true. FPU is a ministry that empowers people to use their finances in a wise and Scriptural way. Plus it gives you tools to help you apply the lessons into your life immediately. 1 st class is free to all, scholarships and childcare are always available!! Classes began September 25 and will run for nine weeks from 1045am – 1215pm. SPONSOR A COLLEGE STUDENT Would you like to sponsor an out-of-town college student who is a member at Faith Community? Graduate sponsors keep out-of-town students connected by sending notes and care packages, and keeping their student in their daily prayers. If your family would be interested in sponsoring a college student, please contact Chris Ownby, Minister to the Christian Home at [email protected] or 702-921-2700. MISSION ENCOUNTER: OCT 20 - 23 Experience other cultures without leaving yours! This free family-friendly exhibit allows you to see the daily challenges of other worlds. But you’ll be filled with hope as you hear how God is restoring life. The 3-country tour takes about 30 minutes. We have a table in the Narthex to register volunteers and guests. We also have a prop donation wall. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. You’d be surprised at the odd items that’ll help us bring the 3 cultures to Faith – and they could be in your “toss or give” piles. FAITH BALL CAPS Hurry! THIS WEEK’S CALENDAR

Through the Lord’s Supper, Jesus comes to us and grants us His eternal gifts! As we prepare to receive the Lord’s Supper, God’s Word encourages us to examine ourselves. The following questions can help you as you prepare to receive the Lord and His gifts: 1) Do you believe that you are a sinner whose hope for eternal life comes from

Christ alone? Romans 3:23-24 2) Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and your Savior? Matt. 16:15-17 3) Do you believe that Jesus is present in this sacred meal to grant His forgiveness?

Matthew 26:26-28

4) Do you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, desire to live a godly life in response to

the Lord’s grace and goodness? Romans 12:1-2

Prepare for the Lord’s Supper

Driving the Word Home

1 Kings 18:1-15

October 1 and October 2, 2016

Pastor Bo Brink

As you leave church today and return home, please the opportunity throughout the week to consider and discuss the following based on the sermon and the following Scriptures.

Monday – v4 says that “Jezebel was killing off the Lord’s prophets.” Why was she doing this? Imagine that your husband or dad was one of these prophets. What would you do? Tuesday – Can you think of some modern day Jezebels who are persecuting Christians today? Why do they do this? Wednesday – v4 also says that “Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water.” Imagine being one of these prophets in the caves. How would you feel about Obadiah? Thursday – What would Jezebel had done to Obadiah if she found out what he was doing? Why was Obadiah willing to take this risk? Friday – List some ways you and I can be modern day Obadiahs, providing support for persecuted Christians today. What motivates us to do these things? Saturday – In some ways, all of us are “persecuted” by sin, death and the devil. In what ways was (is) Jesus our great Obadiah?

“The Need for More Obadiahs and Elijahs”

Luke 8:26-39 1 Kings 19:19-21 Luke 9:57-62

1 Kings 18:1-15

Oh no! Jezebel is trying to arrest and kill all of the Lord’s prophets! No, wait . . . someone is hiding them! Shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone . . . it’s Obadiah! Oh no! Mean people are trying to silence, arrest, torture and murder Christians around the world! No, wait . . . Someone is rescuing them! Who would that be?
