Harmony Day and Anti Bullying/ Multi Cultural Officers Manly West acknowledges both these very significant events, however to honour these days appropriately, we incorporate them in our calendar so that it allows time for the SRC to initiate and communicate the activities as well as organise a date that allows for maximum participation. Harmony Day will be celebrated on the 6 th April and the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence will be incorporated into our Wellbeing Bounce Back and PBEL programs next term. The SRC met today to discuss some of these actions. This week our Multicultural Officers were elected by their peers to lead Harmony Day. Congratulations to Aiden Morton, Eleanor Lucas and Ava Nicolson. District Swimming Congratulations and good luck to all the students representing Manly West PS who are competing today in the District Swimming Carnival. Thank you to Mrs Christy McMaster, Miss Martz and Mrs Gaynor for their preparation and organization in readiness for this carnival. Semester Accounts This week, Semester Accounts were emailed to parents. Please note, when making a payment you can go to the option ‘Other’, write ‘Fees’ in the ‘Payment Description’ and put in the amount you wish to pay. This amount can cover all family members in one transaction. Poetry Wall One of our students wanted to create a Poetry Wall to encourage students in our school to write creatively and share with peers. Summer Lockwood 6L initiated this concept and we now encourage our students to contribute to the wall in the foyer. Student News Congratulations to Cooper Fenn and Elijah Russell for their selection into the Sydney North Opens and 11 years Rugby League Trials. Kitchen Garden
In the Kitchen Garden this week...
Year 3 has been busy in the garden. This week we’ll be doing art work based
on flowering and fruit formation as well as tasting Baba Ganoush dip made from the
eggplant grown in our garden! Next week we are visiting the Eco-house and
garden at Kimbriki. It's a great excursion and will build on the childrens' knowledge
about composting, upcycling and growing food organically. It is a fantastic place to visit and is open
to the public 7 days a week. We encourage everyone to go and have a look. They also run courses
for adults on composting, worm farming and growing vegies organically.
Check out the website http://www.ecohouseandgarden.com.au/content/about-us
Here at Manly West, we're continuing the War on Waste. Have you had a chance to watch the latest
episode? Episode 4 "Turning the tide" is on ABC iView.
Free - hessian bags. Hanging on the fence at the Boyle Street gate. Useful as a blanket in your
compost bin or cut in half for your worm farm. They can also be used to collect garden clippings to
put out for council collection (if you're in the old Manly council area).
It is your legal responsibility to sign children in to BASC in the mornings to
hand-over duty of care. This also applies to older children.
Please do not bring dogs to BASC when dropping off or picking up your children.
Please let us know as early as possible if your child is not attending a session at BASC, even on
the morning for before school care, as we generally have parents who require emergency casual sessions.
CENTRE NEWS
