If your family circumstances have changed and you require an additional copy of the report, please inform your child’s class teacher. Kindergarten reports include an update on where students are currently performing on the Literacy and Numeracy Learning Continuums.
In Grades 1-6, students receive an assessment scale for effort and achievement. Please note that if a student receives the same grade for two consecutive reports they have made progress. For example, if a student receives a ‘sound’ in the middle of the year and again at the end of the year they will be making progress.
Between the two reporting periods, the student will have learned new knowledge and skills of a more advanced nature. In order to receive a ‘sound’ on the second occasion, the student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills in relation to this new and more challenging material.
Year 1 Rugby This Friday morning is the final of five sessions provided by Rugby NSW for Year 1 students. On Friday afternoon, 9th November from 4pm -6:30pm, there is a Rugby Gala Day at Keirle Park for Year 1 students, both boys and girls. This is an optional event. It would be great to field teams representing Manly West. Please
consider attending this free family event. Your child can show you their skills, have fun with their classmates
and enjoy a free sausage sizzle. Please see the flyer on page 12 if you are interested in attending.

Band Christmas Concert
Our Annual Band Christmas Concert was once again a resounding success
with our four bands demonstrating the reasons why they received Gold
awards throughout the year.
The highlights of the evening were the Performance Band’s rendition of
‘Aladdin’ and Penny’s love of Christmas Carols. Performance Band Captains
Rudy Duke-Yonge and Winona Wrigley spoke extremely well about their
musical journey at Manly West.
Thank you to all the parents for supporting the Band Program led by the Band Coordinator,
Rachel McCallum and her team organising all band events. Special thanks to all the tutors and Band
Director Penny Coucill who works tirelessly to buff and polish our students into sparkling diamond
performers. Thank you to Virginia Esparraga and all teachers for actively supporting the program all
year.
Unfortunately, students who have not returned permission notes by the date of their picnic will
be unable to attend. The cost of the picnic was included in your term account. Please ensure this
amount has been paid.

Thanks to everyone for a great end of year concert last Wednesday and a whole year of music. Well
done to our two PB captains Winona Wrigley and Rudy Duke-Yonge for such thoughtful and funny speeches. Best of luck to all our year 6 students who are moving on to high school. We hope you
continue to play music with your peers for many years to come.
Congratulations particularly to Penny, Virginia, our many MWPS supportive teachers and school staff,
the young musicians, our brilliant tutors and all the band families on a year of wonderful learning and playing together (and of course GOLD GOLD GOLD GOLD).
2017 Training Band – your instrument allocation list has been emailed out to everybody who has
applied to enrol in 2017. If you haven't seen it, please check your junk mail just in case. More I nformation about when your hire instrument will be ready for collection in early Term 1 will be sent in January. In the meantime, please start thinking about lining up a private teacher for your child for the essential weekly lesson.
Current band members – you have also been sent your 2017 band allocations in an email asking you
to complete your online re-enrolment email for 2017 ASAP. Just follow the link in the email to
complete.
Please get in touch if your name is not on the 2017 band lists and we will correct. Everyone who
wants to be in band next year should be there so any missing names are just an oversight.
Many of your questions – for example about rehearsal schedules – can be answered through the band
page of the P & C website.
All band members are invited to celebrate a fantastic year of band with a Pizza Lunch this Friday 9th
December which will be held in the gardens behind the year 6 classrooms at the beginning of lunch time. All children will receive some pizza (Penny has already taken their preferences) and a juice of their choice.
The Band Committee is thrilled that Nicole Macnicol has started work as the new Band
Administration Co-ordinator. This is sure to be of great help to the P & C in managing the band program for the school with a positive impact for all band families. We hope everyone will join us in making Nicole feel welcome in her new position.
Parent/family volunteer help in 2017 will continue to be essential. We will be looking for a Band
Liaison for each of our bands to work with the Band Committee. If you are interested in knowing more please contact [email protected] . We will also need a Committee convenor. Please do pitch in whenever possible in 2017 and consider nominating for the Committee. All very welcome.
