Please see Page 3. Phased Plan of transitioning students back to school. As you know, from Monday 11 th May, the Government announced a regulated phased plan of transitioning students back to school safely. Today you should have received two emails: 1. Explanation of The Class Model for Manly West as part of the Phase 1 Face to Face, One day a week transitioning back to school. 2. An email giving you the dedicated day for your childs face to face one day a week. The Class Model days cannot be changed as we had to consider a number of variables including available teachers, classes, social distancing and family groups and any change will not work. Your child will be placed with their class on one day only. All students will be expected to continue their Frameworks of Teaching online learning throughout the week as well. As more students return to school, the Essential Worker student groups will have their dedicated Class Model Day, but on the other days, will have less direct teaching time and more supervision time and may be allocated in stages rather than grade groups. Parents: Entry and Exit From Monday 11 th May, we will have an increase of students and we request that parents do not enter school grounds unless necessary for social distancing reasons. If parents need to pick up booklets or winter uniforms, please enter the office area, via the Griffith Street entrance only. Entry K-6: Please drop off your children at the gates in the morning. Exit: It is much more complicated for afternoon exiting. Exit 3-6: Please make arrangements particularly for older students from Years 3-6 to drop off and pick up without parents entering the schools grounds. Exit K-2: We ask that parents only come in to pick up K-2 students. Kindergarten can be picked up from the Basketball court (near the Kindergarten classrooms); Year 1 can be picked up from the Big Treearea; Year 2 will be picked up from the New COLA area. We also ask that parents do not congregate and please leave the grounds as soon as possible using social distancing. Lunch and Recess We are very fortunate at Manly West PS to have large playground areas so lunch and recess will not be staggered, however, the playground equipment will be closed at those times. Hygiene Practices There continues to be additional cleaning each day which includes cleaning of door handles, taps and railings. Liquid sanitizer and soap are in all classrooms and bathrooms. We request that parents do not send children to school if displaying any symptoms of being unwell. Student News Congratulations to Gemma Poutney, Alyssa McClarnon, Ruby Alver and Alva Jordan who performed The Last Post and Reveille on ANZAC Day. Thank you to Virginia Esparraga and Penny Coucill who also played at 6am on ANZAC Day in Dee Why and Queenscliff, inspiring other local musicians to join together and commemorate such an important event. A Message from Northern Beaches Council In these strange Covid-19 times, many more families than usual are using our shared paths. This is a very positive thing to do, for so many reasons; exercise, getting out of the house and mental health being some of those reasons. However, the extra people means that we have to take extra care with our etiquette on shared paths, so that we reduce the risk of injury to ourselves and others. Please note that everyone can still maintain the required 1.5 metres separation while keeping the Shared Path etiquette, such as walking single file in order to keep to the left and allow others to pass in both directions. https://youtu.be/DrevqKZzGvU The link above takes you to a short Shared Path video, less than a minute in length.

Opportunity Class Placement- Year 5 2021 The placement process for opportunity class entry in 2021, including the Opportunity Class Placement Test, will be delayed until later in the year. This delay is in response to the social distancing measures that are currently in place to help slow the spread of COVID-19 throughout the community. The opportunity class placement will still go ahead in 2020, however, the process for that, including the timeline, will look a little different this year. We intend to ensure Year 5 students are placed opportunity classes in 2021 with minimal disruption to schools and families. Revised dates for applications, tests and process changes will be announced as soon as they are confirmed. The department's website will be updated shortly. https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 SRE Online Resources The Minister for Education has approved the ongoing delivery of SRE lessons in a Learning from Home mode during the restrictions that are in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please find the links below for the Catholic and Anglican lessons.

Dear Manly West, It sure has been a crazy ride this year! Ollie and I hope you’re getting through this as best as you can. It’s certainly been a different start to the year, but there are plenty of positives about it. Luckily we have perfect weather, we can go to the beach, have long sleep-ins and we can do our work at our own pace. One of my favourite things about this whole Covid-19 drama is that I’ve spent heaps of time with my family who crack me up every day!

2020 has not been what we expected. We are really thinking about the little Kindy kids as it is their first year and might be a bit overwhelming for them. Also the Year 3 kids who got selected into their first PSSA team and the Year 6’s as it is their last year. Lots of highs and lows for all the years as everyone is missing out on some-thing that they were looking forward to.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who are home schooling now. Thank you to all the teachers who are at school helping all the kids who cannot stay home. We think everyone is doing an excellent job.

Hopefully, we will start to see everyone back at school from next week. Just remember you are not alone, we are all feeling the same way. If you need to talk about anything, your teachers and friends are all here for you. From Lyla and Ollie School Captains

Manly West Community Learning Plan Update

Congratulations to all of the

students and supportive parents

who have continued to apply their

best efforts to their learning from

home. This week students have

continued to use their Frameworks

for Teaching, they have been

submitting their assignments,

receiving feedback and joining in

to their first Zoom Conference

with their class.

Our staff have continued to work through our

four-phase plan that aims to develop effective and

meaningful connections between staff and

students. We are currently in phase three and our

staff development focus this week is on hosting

effective Zoom video conferences that give

students the opportunity to connect with their

teachers and peers. Check your child’s Google

Classroom for information about the specific date

and time of each class Zoom conference. Please

consult with the ‘Zoom Guide’ and the ‘Student

and Parent expectations for using Zoom,’ attached

to today’s newsletter. If you have read through

this and require extra support. Please call the

office.

We would like to introduce you to our Manly

West Public School Online Learning Hub. This

website has been put together by our

Community Learning Team to assist parents

and students while they are learning from

home. You will find links to resources that are

commonly used in the classroom or have been

deliberately sourced to assist with this process.

https://nsweducation.zoom.us • Click Join to connect to a meeting in progress • Enter the Meeting ID and Password if supplied

• Tap the Zoom app on your mobile device to open it • Tap Join to connect to a meeting in progress • Enter the Meeting ID and Password if supplied

Joining a Zoom Meeting using a provided hyperlink (URL)

• If you received an emailed or other digital invitation, just click the URL to join the Zoom meeting directly. You may need to enter a supplied meeting password separately, to get into the meeting.

● Set up an appropriate space when connecting to your meeting. Consider what’s behind you and how it might look on-screen. ● Sit in a well-lit and quiet place. ● If there is a lot of background noise, a headset/mic will be best to use if you have one. ● Make sure your microphone is muted when not talking. ● Web meetings use more internet bandwidth than web browsing. You might need to keep your webcam off to improve quality. ● Be yourself and respect others. ● Ask questions using the group chat. ● Use reactions/emoticons to engage with your class. ● Read carefully what you’ve typed before sending your message in chat. ● Use the raise your hand feature if wanting to ask a question live.
