Relieving Principal: Claire Morgan 2 6 Dear Parents and Caregivers, Family STEM Night This week you will find an invitation in your child’s bag inviting you to our family STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) night. On Monday June 17 from 4:30pm- 6:00pm we will be hosting a Bemboka PS family night at school. A sausage sizzle and drink will be provided for a gold coin donation. You will be presented with a problem and in a group you will plan and design a specific item to potentially solve the problem. Your design will be tested and you will be allowed to make modifications as required. All materials will be provided. Please respond by returning the bottom portion of the invitation to help with catering and we look forward to seeing you for lots of fun and excitement. Panboola Bird Watching On Wednesday June 12 four students from Stage 2 will be participating in the Panboola Bird Watching Creative and Talented program. Students will learn about the birds of Panboola, using past bird surveys to show how protecting areas helps with conserving animal species. They will spend time bird watching using binoculars and they will identify bird species using the Birds of Australia app. They will also learn how to use Nature Mapr to record their observations. The Far South Coast Birdwatchers Inc have also donated the ‘Pizzey and Knight Birds of Australia’ app to all schools in the Bega Valley. This app is available to students on one of our school’s iPads. Cluster Rehearsal Students who are attending the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House in Term 3 will be travelling to Candelo Friday June 14 for their cluster rehearsal. This is an important part of the students preparation for the concert and is compulsory. A conductor will be guiding students through their piece of music. Parents will be required to transport students to Candelo for a 10am start and finish at 2pm. Pre-school Visit This Friday June 7 Yellow Learning Group will be visiting the Bemboka Pre-school. This is an important part in establishing smooth transitions for pre-school children who will be attending school the following year. There will be more pre-school visits before our kindergarten transition program in Term 4. 5 June 2019 Principals Message School Happenings P&C News Community Notices Tuckshop Roster Coming Events Respect Responsible Resilient The Living Safely with Pets Program On Wednesday June 12 students in K/1/2 will be participating in the Responsible Pet Ownership program. The Living Safely with Pets program is delivered to primary schools throughout NSW and aims to educate children on what it means to be a responsible pet owner and how to live safely with dogs. Athletics Carnival Last Thursday, students participated in our athletics carnival at Colombo Park. It was a fantastic day and everyone appreciated the warm drinks that were provided to adults and students. Thank you to Amanda Rush for volunteering to open up the canteen and provide free hot drinks to the students. Our Small Schools Athletics Carnival will be held at Wolumla on Friday June 28. All students from K-6 will be attending the carnival. Quality Teaching Rounds This week Miss Van Beek, Mrs Collins and I are attending a two day professional learning opportunity in Batemans Bay. The course commenced on Wednesday June 5 and finishes Thursday afternoon. The NSW Department of Education strongly endorses participation in Quality Teaching Rounds as an approach to support educators in refining their teaching. The course is delivered in partnership with the University of Newcastle. While we are away Jenny Szery will be teaching Green Learning Group, Kerry Howard is on Blue Learning Group and Jenny Garden will have Yellow Learning Group. Soccer Our soccer game against Central Tilba will be held next Thursday June 13 at Dalmeny Soccer Oval. Parents are required to transport students to the game. The match will start at 10.30am with a warm up session planned for 10am. Due to our soccer match being held on Thursday June 13 we have had to move our merit assembly to Tuesday 18 June. Sporting Schools Students will participate in their last Lawn Bowls session on Tuesday June 11. The program has been running every week for the past 4 weeks and students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about lawn bowls.
