SBIRT Overview and Additional Courses:

Free Self-Paced Online Course: SBIRT 101 This is a three part intensive SBIRT course which will give the participant a

thorough understanding of SBIRT and its components (10 CEs available, if all three parts are

taken) Available from the National SBIRT ATTC.

SBIRT for Health and Behavioral Health Professionals:

How to Talk to Patients about Substance Use A 4-hour, self-paced, online course from University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Learners will take part in an interactive orientation on SBIRT (screening, brief

intervention, and referral to treatment for substance use) with adults, applying their learning

through interactive games, case scenarios, and quizzes to develop their knowledge, skills, and

abilities in using SBIRT as an intervention with patients.

Foundations of SBIRT The course provides an introduction to SBIRT, including the rationale for and

efficacy of implementation in various settings. The 4-part course can help to inform interested

professionals about the importance of incorporating SBIRT activities into substance use disor-

der prevention and treatment systems. Available from Pacific Southwest ATTC.

The Prevalence of Opioid Misuse: Doctor Shopping, Co-ingestion, and Exposure This self-paced online course covers important topics in prescription opioid misuse. The three

sections will introduce you to prescription opioids, the link between multiple doctors and op-

portunities for misuse, and the prevalence of high-risk use among adolescents (including mix-

ing pills with other drugs).

Electronic Tools for Use in the Continuum of Care for Patients With Addiction This is a self-paced online course about the use of technology throughout the continuum of

care for patients with addiction. The five sections will introduce you to five different electronic

tools that can be used in prevention, treatment, and aftercare.
