Information about Session 4 (1-2pm):

Open Space Conversation on Workplace Resilience

We’ve designed this post-lunch session to engage attendees in conversation about resilience at work. The idea is simple: people will gather around a table and talk until they’re done talking (or until time runs out). We’ve organized tables around resilience-related themes.

Table 1. Avoiding burnout Table 11. Dealing with failure at work

Table 2. Finding meaning at work Table 12. Setting goals at work

Table 3. Building relationships at work Table 13. Managing stress at work

Table 4. Finding work-life balance Table 14. Being persistent at work

Table 5. Managing time at work Table 15. Adapting to change at work

Table 6. Resolving conflict at work Table 16. Managing vicarious trauma

Table 7. Having fun at work Table 17. Handling compassion fatigue

Table 8. Asking for help at work Table 18. Supporting colleagues’ resilience

Table 9. Knowing when to change careers Table 19. Leaving work worries at work

Table 10. Staying optimistic at work Table 20. Overcoming a crisis at work

Pick a table with a theme that interests you most. If the table is full, then pick another. Conversations will not be moderated or facilitated, so let the discussion flow where ever it wants to go. If you’re stuck, here are some questions to prompt discussion:

1. What does this resilience theme mean to you? 2. Give a brief, real life example of a time when you were challenged in this resilience theme. 3. What are some things you do well in relation to this resilience theme? 4. Imagine that you were very effective in relation to this resilience theme. What types of

things would you be doing? 5. What steps do you think you can take toward doing better in relation to this resilience

theme?

When the conversation is nearing an end, or time is running out, we are asking each table to identify a key learning that was generated during the conversation—something that the table members think is an important idea, skill, or message to share with others at the conference. Write this key learning down on the paper provided. These key learnings will be summarized and shared back to attendees during the final session of the conference.
