Curiosity Kills The Cat’ is a doodle series I started ::(one rainy evening when I bought too much stationery under the pretext of retail therapy) . The post-work hobby turned into a part-time job pretty soon. My art is themed around today’s pop culture- Music, Movies, TV Shows and Books. It’s called Curiosity Kills The Cat because there’s a cat hidden in each of the drawings. www.facebook.com/cktc.illustrations I currently sell my artwork on my webpage, and through ‘Hysteria ‘ in Bangalore. PS. I’m a dog person, but cats are a purrfect fit in Meow-dern art!

The graffiti stands out against the bare wall, and as the children place their work in the cut outs in the wall, it is lit up on the outside by the switches triggered by the people’s footsteps.

ABSTRACTION

WALL AS AN INTERACTIVE MEDIUM

PHYSICAL WALL: MENTAL BARRIER WALL AS A UNIFYING ELEMENT RATHER THAN DIVIDING

Redesigning the existing Juvenile Correction Centre in Matunga, Mumbai (Proposed Project) Juvenile delinquency is a pressing issue in today’s Indian context. In order to address it, the objective of the thesis was to Revisit the conventional idea of such a Delinquent Centre or ‘Prison’. Focus on bringing the walls of discrimination down – with regard to the preconceived notion society has about Juvenile Delinquents, and portray it as more of a Correction Centre. The design approach involves creation of intimate, comfortable spaces for these children; and also to address the issue of the acceptance of such a centre by the public, by projecting this centre as an integral part of the society.

PRCOCESS MODELS

Matunga is located in the centre of the city, and is mainly a residential area. The Matunga railway station (West) is within 200 metres of the site and serves as an important station in the city. The site is opposite the Matunga flyover, which has a pedestrian pathway. In close proximity are many institutions.

The site was in the Biesch-Bosch are of Dordrecht, Holland. Currently, few villas exist on site, and is otherwise unused. To better the economy of the area and activate it, tourism was considered, as the site has many natural features such as a beach, small lakes, forest areas, and marshlands.

The concept was to build weekend getaways that would blend in completely with the natural habitat- in order to capitalize on the existing natural features; and also to provide tourism generating recreational activities

THE SITE AS A MACHINE

We also proposed a food market and restaurant to produce a revenue stream for the community and to utilise excess production capacity. The community would become a focal point and destination for the residents of the surrounding area; luxury detached villas on one side and a social housing estate across the road.

The project was to develop the concept of "new models for sustainable density" in a residential area containing three abandoned schools. The site is carless, with parking built into the existing dyke. Of the schools, one is devoted to food production, one to energy production, and one to waste disposal and all incorporate different housing typologies (studio apartments, family apartments, and semi-detached dwellings). A mechanised landscape integrates water management, and uses the water in a sustainable way to support its various functions.

PROPOSAL: A Controlled re-flooding of the landscape, as a proxy for predicted water level rises, and the refurbishment of the existing buildings, to create a self-sustainable community. A variety of landscape stabilisation techniques were suggested so as to create a living environment which could react to changes in water levels.

The project required us to design a Community Centre for the economically weaker section in the upcoming area of Yelahanka, Bangalore, India. The community center was to serve as a place for learning for those who couldn’t afford it; also as a platform for meeting like minded people. The concept of the project was to create an ‘artist’s hub’ since with respect to such a centre, everyone is a learner and everyone a teacher. Thus, to cater to these needs, diabolic space of privacy and interaction were created, with the core functions of the center placed physically between them.

THE LINEAR PARK COLLECTIVE: 3 PLuG in @ 3 SiTES SITE: The Rose Gardens, Jayanagar, Bangalore PROPOSAL: (Live Project) A Theatre Park for Children - An extension to the Rangashankara Theatre

BRIEF Rangashankara has always encouraged the young to involve themselves in theatre, and in order to inculcate this, it is necessary to provide said facilities especially in a residential locality such as Jayanagar.

URBAN INSERT: AHA! - A children’s theatre space dealing with their wants, concerns, needs and ambitions; because such are the emotions that theatre brings to us, whether as an audience or as performers. Realizing that the design on our site along the Rose Gardens needed to – 1) Create a fresh memory at a city scale 2) Become an inclusive space in terms of the

users; It seemed apt that a facility for children (which as a result, would cater to adults) should come up here. The ‘Bentley Method of Responsive Environments’ is adapted in terms of VARIETY, PERMEABILITY, RICHNESS,LEGIBILITY, ROBUSTNESS, VISUAL APPROPRIATENESS and PERSONALISATION to understand and map the urban fabric in this context.

Seeing as this road has heavy pedestrian traffic, an alternate pedestrian pathway was provided, connecting one from the bus stop on one side of the site to the other. The idea of street furniture was explored as this area attracts a lot of hawkers, students, and office goers.

The concept was to recreate the memory of the Rose Gardens that existed in the area. This road that once bore rich canopies of trees on either side, is now shadowed by the overhead metro construction.
