Top Story Bajaj Auto’s new Discover 100T priced at INR 50,000 Bajaj Auto has rolled out a new 100 cc motorcycle Discover 100 Tourer, targeted at the upper end of the mass market segment and priced at INR 50, 500 ex‐showroom New Delhi. The new Discover 100T is powered by Bajaj Auto's patented 4‐valve DTS‐i technology which delivers 10.2 ps of power. It is 30% more powerful than other motorcycles in this segment. It is also expected to have a fuel efficiency of 87 km per litre. At present, Bajaj holds a 20% share in the mass market space. The new Discover 100T is company’s only bike in the A3 segment. It is expected to provide competition to the Hero MotoCorp's Passion and Honda Motorcycle's Dream Yuga which are priced between INR 46,000 to INR 51,000. Company is planning to sell ~40,000 to 45,000 units of new Discover 100T per month, there by increasing its market share to 30% within coming years. DP World plans organizational restructuring in India Dubai based DP World, the biggest container port operator in India, handling about 40% of the country’s container volume through its five terminals. The company is fully prepared for an organizational restructuring in India. It plans to transfer all its local assets to a newly incorporated company in India, named Hindustan Ports. The restructuring aims to consolidating and ‘Indiansing’ the local assets making make their overall management easier and help route investments directly. The restructuring could help direct investment through the holding company. However, this plan might be a part of a strategy to boost the company’s valuation aiming to tap the local capital market for funds in the future. News Update
General Revenue Department requests Customs to ensure CCTV cover Customs will install surveillance cameras at all cargo areas within a month in order to check unauthorized access in imported and export goods. The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) have asked for high security in customs areas prohibiting any unauthorized entry. Further, the video footage should be available to customs, which shall regularly monitor the same. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has highlighted on the utility of video cameras and CCTV from the view point of preventive vigilance.

Vizhinjam International Seaport to raise INR 8 bn The Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd. has collaborated with Housing & Urban Development Corporation and India Infrastructure Finance Company. The seaport will raise INR 8 bn for the construction of India’s biggest port after completion. An additional amount of INR 8 bn will be raised via bonds. This project has further raised INR 3 bn with the help of a consortium of banks led by the State Bank of Travancore. After becoming fully operational the port will have a capacity to load 2.8 mn standard containers and 1.8 mn tonne a year of other types of cargo, excluding containers. GeoPost to aquire 40% stake in DTDC A strategic 40% stake worth INR 4.75 bn in DTDC Courier & Cargo will be acquired by GeoPost Group. The firm will also buy out the entire stake of Reliance Capital in DTDC. The French express logistics firm is the second largest operators in Europe in the courier express parcels market. With this partnership, GeoPost will get a strong foothold in the highly competitive Indian market that has high entry barriers and has most global players. DTDC will also get access to European markets and new technology. Being a network‐driven business, both are expected to benefit from the partnership. German investments in Indian shipping sector German companies are invited in India to invest in the shipping sector. India is now emerging as a logistics hub and cruise destination. 100% FDI in the shipping sector is expected to facilitate German companies to invest in maritime sector. Germany has expertise in ship building which could be utilized in India through mutual cooperation. This deal would be mutually beneficial for both the nations. JNPT clears way for Trans Harbour Link The nation's largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) surrenders its demand for a realignment of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. JNPT will be issuing an no objection certificate to the Maharashtra government to proceed with the much‐ delayed Harbour Link with the planned alignment. JNPT had demanded a realignment as it was planning its fifth container terminal. However it withdrew it as it might harm its own expansion plan raising the cost of the project.

Regulatory
Government declares new norms for security clearances to port projects Ministry of Shipping has declared new norms making three years validity in security clearances granted to a shipping company. During the three years the companies have to inform about any changes in the management control and more than 10% change in the shareholding by any shareholder within two weeks.
This action is taken in order to expedite the port projects. Government plans to increase the country's port capacity from current level of 1 bn tonnes to 3 bn tonnes with an investment of INR 30 tn by 2020. News Update
Expansion Plans Maruti to build its fourth plant in Gujarat Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has bought a land in the western state of Gujarat to establish its fourth plant in India with an annual production capacity of 0.75 mn units. The plant is scheduled to be operational by 2017 at the earliest. This will aid in increasing Maruti’s exports to Europe and Middle East. Company is aimed at doubling its production capacity to ~3 mn units per annum. Company also has plans of starting work by March 2013 on its third plant in Mehsana district, Gujarat, which is expected to be operational by 2015. Fiat plans to set up 100 showrooms in India by 2013 Fiat Group Automobiles India has announced its plans of setting up 100 exclusive dealerships throughout the country by the end of 2013. Out of which, company aims to complete its target of first 70 showrooms by March this year. Fiat holds ~0.5 % market share by selling only two car models, Punto and Linea, in the Indian automobile market. Company has already signed agreements for top 35 cities in terms of market across India, clearly indicating its aim to capture metros and tier 1 cities in the first phase of dealership expansion. Tier 2 and tier 3 cities will be considered in the second phase which includes Chennai, Thane, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru among others. Besides, the company has plans of rolling out Punto Abarth, which is a sporty racy version of Punto in the third quarter. It will also introduce Fiat‐Chrysler's Jeep Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Mahindra and Ssangyong Motor to develop new products Mahindra & Mahindra has plans of investing INR 49.50 bn for establishing three new platforms and six engines in collaboration with its South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong Motor Corporation, over the next four years. They plan to fund this expenditure partly via fresh equity, internal accruals and external commercial borrowings. An additional INR 50 bn will be invested by Mahindra indigenously by the end of 2014. In March 2011, Mahindra had acquired 70% stake in Ssangyong Motor for INR 25.46 bn. In Oct 2011, the Rexton, Ssangyong’s first SUV was launched in India. The parts of this vehicle will be sourced from South Korea, where as it will be assembled by Mahindra at its Chakan plant. Apollo Tyres’ new global R&D centre in Netherlands Apollo Tyres has set up a global R&D centre in Enschede, the Netherlands for developing and testing of car and van tyres for its entire product. Initially, the R&D centre will employ over 100 R&D specialists from various parts of the world, including 20 car tyre specialists from India and South Africa. Later it will be increased to 150 people. The new R&D centre is considered to be a key landmark in its journey to become INR 330 bn tyre company by 2016. Transworld ventures into new verticals Transworld, a leading shipping and logistics conglomerate plans to expand its operations into new verticals by venturing into non‐containerized segment The new verticals include Bulk Carriers FZCO and Transworld Projects. These expansions will enhance their core businesses within the umbrella of container shipping. The company has further disclosed its new branding created to symbolize its renewed vision and mission focusing on innovation, adapting new strategies and technologies and becoming a leader in the shipping and logistics industry. Everstone Capital acquires stake in Transpole Logistics Everstone Capital Advisors, the PE firm has acquired a significant minority stake in Transpole Logistics of deal worth around INR 2.2 bn. Delhi based Transpole with presence across India, China, Hong Kong, Korea and South East Asia plans to expand its international offices in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea with the new funding. Further, it will also explore opportunities in VAS business like and warehousing and distribution. UniTrans acquires stake in Tranzlease Holdings Saudi based United International Transportation (UniTrans) has acquired 32.5% strategic stake in TranzLease Holdings India Pvt. Ltd. This acquisition has occurred through infusion of growth capital into TranzLease. This strategy will allow the company to stimulate its growth plans ahead.

UniTrans plans to expand into South Asia starting with India. Owing to high growth in the automobile sector and auto lease sector, the foreign investors are attracted to this region. We should submit energy audit report on various sectors to the people every year.
