By: Daniyal Sattar

Page 2: Research on genre a1

I carried out a research into different genres of a Music Magazine to be inspired by one, so that I can use it for my own Music Magazine. For every genre, I found that there was a different target audience, different features, a different scheme of colors and different way of representation of both the pictorial as well as the textural elements in the magazine.

GENRE: POP

Generally Pop magazines are presented by a scheme of bright and cheery colors, such as pink or purple. Through this scheme of colors it is made very clear that the target audience for such magazines are teenage girls. The pop magazine usually features the image of a singer or celebrity with a recent release of album or movie whom the teenage girls like to listen to or watch. The usage of language is rather simple as it is understood easily by the reader and get straight to the main story.

Hip Hop is a subculture that came into being in the 1970s by the fusion of Latin American and African American. This culture is mainly classified into four sub components- rapping, DJ’ing, breaking and graffiti. The color scheme of hip hop magazines is dark colors with the usage of red particularly. The target audience of hip hop magazines are teenagers because it is the type of music teenagers like listening to in this generation. The main image is usually of a singer with a recent release.

The Classical Music Magazine are aimed to inspire the older generation as classical music is slow and relaxing. The color scheme of such magazine are very soft and subtle for example white, black and other light shaded colors. The image is usually of an artist with recent performance that features as the main highlight of the magazine.
