This summer I worked on:

The Spitzer Space Telescope (SIRTF) IRS Disks Team!

(Image not to scale!)

I reduced data with SMART: Spectroscopy Modeling Analysis and Reduction Tool

What my main project was supposed to be:

Reduce spectroscopic data

PAHs?

Amorphous silicate in absorption CO2 in absorption

SL SH LH

Most of the time, though, I organized the following library of file and structure converters:

Original ISAP Software

ascii2yaaar writeascii

isap_rfits sap_wfits

AstroLib

readfits writefits

SMART Specific

In early September I went here: the Palomar Telescope

Page 7: Research in Astronomy: Studying Big Stars, Small Stars, And Working with Computers (a.k.a. the cool stuff I’ve done since last January)

What we did at Palomar:

Got data data on several Herbig AeBe stars (15 total, 2 trips)• Along with the Herbigs, “standard stars” were taken (for comparison) •Flatfields: Looking at the background

What we did back at the lab:Data reduction (for each star):

1) Subtract the sky, standard and target2) Divide program star by standard3) Defringe the spectrum

Summary and Future Work

•Publish our findings

•Where we go from here:

Telescope proposals for:-Gemini-Palomar-Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF)

Spitzer!
