Timely procurement, lifting/ storage and payment to

farmers- Key to success

• Under mid and low hills, NBH can be

successfully grown under partial shade

of trees, however, more shading can

significantly reduce (upto 50 per cent)

the production of this grass.

• Oxalate contents were higher in the

forage produced under tree shade.

Shade of the tree also resulted in slight

increase in nitrate content in the

forage.

• Oxalate and nitrate contents showed

an increasing trend with increasing

levels of nitrogen under shaded as well

unshaded conditions.

(Fodder produced under shade should

be fed with caution.)

Improvement in quantity & quality of Tall Fescue grass

through Enterobacter ludwigii (KF429740) inoculation

•Rice -palak – cucumber cropping sequence resulted in

significantly highest RGEY (27.5 t/ha) which was

4.06 times higher compared to traditional rice– wheat

system.

•This sequence also had significantly highest net returns

(Rs 1,55,459/ha), B: C ratio (3.27), productivity (93.4

kg/ha/day), profitability (Rs 425.5/ha).

•The second best cropping systems was rice – pea –

summer squash with RGEY (20.9 kg/ha) and net

returns. (Rs 88,523/ ha)

Cropping Systems Studies

Nutrient Management

•Long –term fertilizer experiment on maize- wheat revealed that continuous use of farm yard manure (to maize only) along with of optimal dose of NPK to maize as well as wheat has resulted in highest productivity (30q/ha) of wheat (rabi 2015-16).

•Application of lime along with optimal dose of NPK to both the crops resulted in comparable wheat production (28.0q/ha) with 100% NPK plus FYM.

•Omission of K application in wheat drastically reduced the wheat yield (up to 50%) in spite of application of both Nitrogen & Phosphorus

Water management

• For maximizing production,

broccoli crop should be irrigated

at three day interval with gravity

fed drip irrigation system

• Under protected condition, for

higher productivity and B: C ratio,

cucumber crop should be irrigated

at 0.4 PE and fertigated with 200

percent RDF (25% through

conventional and 75 % through

fertigation in 7 splits at 10 days

intervals

CROP PROTECTION

Potential parasitoids of aphids recorded

• Three parasitoids viz. Aphelinus

asychis, Aphidius ervi and Diaeretiella

rapae were recorded parasitizing

Myzus persicae at different

locations of Himachal Pradesh.

• They were observed to be

effective biological control agents

of the aphid, M. persicae. A.

asychis and A. ervi and can be

successfully utilized for its

management.

Screening of Biopesticides and plant extracts

extracted in cow urine against mustard aphid • Neem seed kernel extract treatment resulted in

83% reduction in mustard aphids population and

was statistically at par with neem oil and melia

formulation treatment (86.6% reduction in aphid

population) .

• The Melia drupe extract in cow urine gave

only70% reduction in aphids population.

• The order of effectiveness on the basis of

persistent toxicity (PT) was eastimated : neem oil

(306.4) > melia formulation (293.29) > neem seed

kernel extract in cow urine (273) > melia drupe

extract in cow urine (246.67) > eupatorium leaves

extract in cow urine (239.44) > melia leaf extract

in cow urine (213.26)> cow urine alone (146.66).

Mustard aphid

(Lipaphis erysimi)

Gene Sequences of predominant species of white grubs

Primers for amplifying cox1 and 28 Sr RNA genes were custom

synthesized and used for amplification of respective genes of

predominant species of whitegrubs viz. Holotrichia serrata, H.

consanguinea, H. longipennis and H. sikkimensis.

Sequences of mitochondrial cox1 obtained for A1, A2, A3 and A4 aligned using

Multalin Program

• Seed treatment with Sedaxane 2.5 % + Fludioxonil 2.5 %+ Thiamethoxam 26.25% (312.5) FS at 2 g/Kg of seed resulted in very good control of Loose smut and Karnal bunt of wheat.

• Single sprays of Tilt (0.1%), Folicur (0.1%) and Nativo (0.06%) gave cent per cent control of yellow rust disease of wheat in moderately resistant variety HPW 249.

• Two genotypes namely

EC 339000 and DLSC-1

were found moderately

resistant to Alternaria

blight of Rapeseed-

mustard.

• Seed treatment(ST) with

Vitavax power (2g/kg

seed) + two foliar sprays

of hexaconazole (0.1%),

were most effective

against linseed rust

• Proquinazid 20 EC @ 150

ml/ha was most effective

for the management of

pea powdery mildew.

• Spray of cymoxanil 8% +

mancozeb 64% WP

(0.25%) and zineb

(0.25%) Managed downy

mildew of cucumber

effectively.

• Installation of yellow sticky traps (1 trap per 10 m2) fifteen days prior to transplanting

• Soil application of Imidacloprid 17.8 SL (0.005 ml/ plant) and need based alternate application of Thiamethoxam 25 WG (0.4g/L) and Spiromesifen 22.9 SC (0.8 ml/L) when the adult population goes beyond 15 adults per three terminal fully opened leaves.

Disease Management Technology Developed for

Protected cultivation •Management of soil-borne diseases ( root rot and collar rot) of

capsicum and tomato Apply bioagent (Trichoderma sp.) @ 500 g in 50 kg of well rotten vermin-

compost/FYM and kept covered with moist gunny bag under optimum moisture

for 7-10 days in the bed along with rest of the FYM before transplanting. Treat

the seedling with copper oxychloride @ 0.3% solution for 20 minute and

transplant. After 15 days of transplanting, drench the seedlings of capsicum /

tomato with bioagent 5g/l (talc based formulation) twice at 15 days intervals.

•Management of Powdery mildew of capsicum Apply tebuconazole (0.05%) and elemental sulfur sprays in rotation at 15 days

and 10 days interval respectively starting just at the first appearance of the

powdery mildew symptoms.

•Management of downy mildew of cucumber Spray the crop with a combination fungicide product of cymoxanil 8% +

mancozeb 64% WP (0.25%) and zineb (0.25%) in rotation at 15 and 10 days

interval, respectively.

Organic Input Responsive Genotypes Identified

Potato In a long term trial application of vermicompost @ 5 t/ha along with Himcomost @ 2.5 t/ha produced highest potato yield (182.0 q/ha). Garlic Application of liquid manure Himsol 10%/ Compost tea 10% /Vermiwash 10% (four sprays at 15 days interval commencing from 30 days after sowing) recorded significantly higher yield over other treatments. Onion Onion var. Palam Lohit recorded highest yield of 256.9 q/ha with four applications of Himsol 10% at 15 days interval starting from one month after transplanting.

Ad-hoc guidelines were developed for Cultivation of important crops of mid Himalayas under organic farming conditions.

•Release proposal of Linseed variety KL-241 (Him Palam Alsi-1), a seed type

variety suitable for utera system of cultivation under assured moisture

conditions of all the traditional linseed growing areas in Mid hills of H.P.
