Request for Proposal – Wanda Gag Sculpture Addendum #1 Project Description The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to commission a qualified sculptor to design and produce a new public art piece featuring Wanda Gag, world-renowned artist and author. The sculpture will be installed in downtown New Ulm, Minnesota, at 17 North Broadway on the front lawn of the New Ulm Public Library. The sculpture will be visible to all people entering the library through the Broadway doors and by traffic passing the library on the busiest street/highway in New Ulm. It also will be visible from inside the building. Scope of Work The Wanda Gag Sculpture Project is a community effort, spearheaded by the Wanda Gag House Association, a 501(c)(3) organization. The mission of the Wanda Gag House Association is to foster and develop an environment in our community for discovering and preserving the Gag Family art, traditions, and historical objects. Parameters of the Commissioned Sculpture bronze sculpture if a base is used, the material can be of the artist’s choice. Artist’s base material is subject to approval. Wanda as an adult, life-size capture essence of Wanda as a creative artist, illustrator, and author at work period clothing and casual pose, barefoot aesthetically pleasing from all sides visually interesting approachable and appealing to all ages design capable of being miniaturized for marketing Location The approximate size of the lawn area is 24 feet by 44 feet. The bushes on site will be removed, and landscaping of the total area will take place to accommodate the sculpture. Artist input regarding landscaping is welcome. An existing concrete wall in front of the library could be part of the overall sculpture environment. Public Art Component The piece should be three-dimensional, durable, easily maintained, and freestanding. Artist must address engineering, construction, installation, and maintenance standards. The art piece must be fabricated with bolting or attachment to a concrete surface or a suitably designed footing. The artist shall be responsible for the design of the required footing (engineering) for the sculpture and give the plans to the Wanda Gag Sculpture Committee. The Committee will have the site prepared for installation. The artist will assist the Committee with the final placement. A prominent sign on the sculpture or base shall read: Wanda Gag Artist and Author 1893-1946
