    2004 10 million2005 14 million

The mobile phone market 44% increased on item by item basis according

to the research of GfK Turkey in 2007. The ten months endorsement reached to

1 billion 520 million Euro according to the data obtained from selling centers by

GfK Turkey. This means that Turkish people spend about 161,35 American dollars

(190 YTL) for the mobile phone.

In Turkey, the mobile phone sales reached to 9 million 421 thousand in the

first ten months of 2007. Still the cheaper mobile phones are sold more, Nokia

strengthen its market leadership position distinctly (with a rate of 54%).

Samsung increased its market share above 30% with slide mobile phones.

According to the research done by GfK Turkey, 5 different features had a

significant effect on selecting a mobile phone except the price and designbetween 2005 and 2007. The rate of camera featured mobile phone reached to

60 %. The Camera and music player features of mobile phone increased the

storage necessity. The capacity of memory card, radio, internet, camera and

Bluetooth features determine the consumers choice. According to the data of

Telecommunication Institute approximately 57 million SIM card is being used and

it is estimated that there are about 45 million mobile phone subscribers

In Turkey, mobile phone users used to change their mobile phones once intwo years according to the research done by Telecommunication Institute.

    4

  • 8/14/2019 Report Sintesti Turchia

    5/30

However, the number of the sold mobile phones exceeded to 20 millions.

Therefore, it could be said that the spam of changing a mobile phone is increased

to 18 months. The most crucial reason of this can be assumed as the

improvement of mobile phone features, breakdown and pilferage.

Besides, every 10 students of 9 who are 15+ used the internet at least

once and the rate of whose at least a member of household used internet is

51%. In accordance with the internet usage and tolerance, 18% of the internet

users do not want to communicate with a member of other religions and the ones

do not use internet is 42%.The executive of Institute of Research of Information

Technology Prof. Dr. Esmer laid stress on the relation between the approach to

information technology and age, gender, education and said the highest agegroup of mobile phone owners is18-25 and at later ages, this rate rapidly

decreases. Moreover, almost all of the interviewed students use mobile phone.

The researcher reflected that most of the teenagers use prepaid mobile phones,

37% of them send SMS everyday but over 65 this rate is very low (almost 0%)

and 8% of the teenage users take picture with their mobile phones everyday. In

the research, it is defined that the span of buying a new mobile phone or

changing it is so short and 25% of the mobile phone owners bought them in the

last 6 months and the rate of ones who bought their mobile phones more than a

year ago is less than 50%.

The researcher said that there is a huge difference between men and

women in terms of information technology as pointing to the 20 point difference

between the women mobile phone owners and men owners. The researcher

proposed that one of the basic aims should be eliminating this difference. He

conveyed that mobile phone is very rarely used for another function rather than

talking. On the other hand, he determined that taking a picture, listening to the

radio or MP3, playing a game functions are widely used.

Samples of Researches done about the Effects of ICT Tools` Usage on

    Family one International Basis

While, in Turkey dazzling developments occurred in information andcommunication as in all over the world let teenagers enter an unlimited world. It

    5

  • 8/14/2019 Report Sintesti Turchia

brings teenagers together with freedom, opportunity and information but it also

confronts teenagers with new causes and dangers. There are various studies

done on the effects of ICT tools usage on social tissue and family, the most

important element of social tissue. For example, the research Internet Usage

and Family Research done by the General Directorate of Family and Social

Researches can be summarized as follows.

In the study, the families using internet and the status of internet in the

social lives of family members are evaluated as interviewing with family

members. 26 cities are determined for the study and 4 thousand 819 people are

interviewed (2 thousand father, 2 thousand mother and 819 children). 36% of

the parents interviewed in the scope of this study are graduated from faculty or

above, only 0.25% are illiterate. The literate rate of parents using internet is very high. 99.75%of the

parents using internet are literate. On the other hand, mothers` education status

is significantly lower than fathers` education status. It is assessed that about

77% of people who participated to the study use the internet. 76.7% of the ones

who do not use the internet are mothers, 22.8% are fathers and 0.6% are

children. The very first aim is to attain information (67.71) for family members.

Furthermore, this is followed by reading news (42.12%),

    education/course/research (40-42%), and communication (38.18). Family

members use the internet least for betting (2.12%) and business (2.39%).

When the time span of using internet increases, the time that parents

spend with their family members decreases and it also increases the parents`

edge away and prevents face to face contact. It also increases the rate of

complaints about parents spending so much time on the internet.

It is assessed that most of the family members have trouble because of

using internet and computer. It appeared that the most common physiological

problem of family members is eye restrain. It is followed by backache, pain in

the neck, headache, joint pain, myalgia, exhaustion and insomnia. The least

common physiological problem of family members is eating disorder.

The rate of having trouble because of viruses increases, when childrens

internet usage frequency and using internet at home rate increases. Moreover,

the rate of aspersion, coercion or immoral offers (by unknown users) increases,

when the rate of people using internet at internet cafes increases. While surfing

    6

  • 8/14/2019 Report Sintesti Turchia

    7/30

the internet, the possibility of encountering with violence or pornographic

thematic web sites or advertisements increases.

As a result of the research, 57% of the families mostly use the internet at

home. It is followed by 27.23% of them use the internet at work, 10.04% at

internet caf and 3.76% at school. It revealed that mostly children use the

    internet at internet cafes.

The ones having internet access at home do not like to go to the internet

caf is one of the results of the research. Besides, children have dramatically

more positive opinions about the internet caf than parents. In other words,

children showed more positive attitudes toward their parents. Nonetheless, it is

stated that boys find internet cafes good places more in comparison with girls.

Making a point of parent education on safe internet and computer usage andespecially in the primary school and high school, showing interest in Technology

and Using Media courses must be maintained. In the study it is ascertained that

the danger to which children are exposed in terms of internet security and ethic

    are much more than parents.

The time that parents spend with their families decreases when the time

span and frequency of using internet increases and the physiological.

Psychosocial problems increase depending on the time span and frequency of

using internet. It is listed that families have a problem of unifying the internet

    culture and social life.

In the study, it is booked that the rate of aspersion, coercion or immoral

offers (by unknown users) increases, when the rate of children using internet at

internet cafes increases. It is considered that internet cafes cause children to

pick up bad habits and decrease childrens academic achievements because the

web sites that users can access are not inspected enough.

Akta suggested the following in the study Evaluation of Children and

    Teenagers` Interactive Communication Tools Usage Habits;

Parents should control their children and encourage children to use the

musts of the era, the computer and internet. However,

Parents should monitor childrens computer and internet usage and should

prepare a usage program and make rules together.

Parents should have a computer accessing internet in their bedroom forthe occasions that they can not control their children.

    7

  • 8/14/2019 Report Sintesti Turchia

    8/30

Parents should guide their children about the PC games and video games

and should not allow them to play these games without their control.

Internet cafes should be under an effective control mechanism.

Parents should not allow their children to go to internet cafes without their

    control.

Yaln (2003:86) stated the followings in the study Internet from a

    Sociological View.

People spending so much time on computer, chatting, downloading a program,

Mp3 or movie, spend less time with people in his physical environment (his

children, wife, mother, father, friends etc.) and this is the main problem. The one

chatting many hours with someone that he does not know loses the real

individuals in his environment and he may have trouble in having healthy

relationships. One of the problems concerning the family, internet gives rise to

spouses to enter into relations with others. One of the topics of the media for a

long while is married people get divorced because of the people they meet on the

internet. Another problem concerning the family is family members neglect each

other because they spend so much time on the internet. On one hand children

can not allow enough time to their parents and on the other hand parents canallow enough time neither each other nor children. Television has already

impaired the family ties. Therefore, it can be regarded that the problem of

families accessing the internet is worse. It can effect the relation and

communication of the family positively when the internet is used correctly.

Internet wont have negative affect on the family when it is used to contact with

family friends from around the world, to attain information or for computer

assisted education. Similar problems can be seen in the example of television

watching. It can not be asserted that families have strict family ties whose

children prefer spending their time watching television instead of doing their

homework or watching a movie instead of chatting with family members.

It is planned and carried out to determine the affects of internet usage on

topics concerning the individual and family life in the master study of Demir

(2006), Determination of Affects of Internet Usage on Topics Concerning the

Individual and Family Life. It is assessed that the rate of women (%48.1) and

men (51.9) included in the study is more or less t same and subjects` averageage is 36.348.71 and more than half of them are married (%58.1) and they are
