In connection with World Environment Day 2016, a variety of programs were
conducted at Kerala University College of Teacher Education, Kayamkulam from 14th
June 2016 to 16th June 2016 by including the student teachers of different colleges and
the students from schools.
1. Painting Competition
On June 14, 2016, a painting competition was conducted for High School
students. Students from Govt. Boys High School, Kayamkulam and Girls High School,
Kayamkulam participated in the competition. The competition began at 2.00 pm. The
topic for the painting competition was “Bhumiyude Avakashikal”. The teacher-in-charge
of the competition was Smt. Anupama V. S., Asst. Prof. KUCTE, Kayamkulam. Many
students actively participated in the competition
The winners of the drawing competition were:

2. Aaziya - X.B
3. Aparna - X.B
4. Adeena - VIII.B

Among the winners, seven students were from Girls High School, Kayamkulam and
two from government Boy‟s high school, Kayamkulam.

2. Intercollegiate Quiz Competition
On June 15, 2016, an Intercollegiate Quiz competition was conducted for the student
teachers. Students from different colleges participated in the competition. The quiz
competition started around 2 pm. There were 4 groups for the competition each group
with 2 students. The colleges that participated for the competition were:
1. KUCTE, Kunnam
2. KUCTE, Adoor
3. Jameela Beevi Training College, Kayamkulam
4. KUCTE, Kayamkulam
Two students from each of the colleges mentioned above participated in the
competition. The quiz competition consisted of five rounds viz., warm-up, Red zone,
Ray of hope, fire zone and have a look round. All students actively participated in
the competition. The students who participated in the competition were:
1. Sreedevi, Jeena R - KUCTE, Kunnam
2. Jessy Varghese, Seena K.G - KUCTE, Adoor

Alappuzha
4. Jaseel, Anju - KUCTE, Kayamkulam
The winners of the competition are as follows:
First - KUCTE, Kunnam with 56 points
Second - Jameela Beevi with 49 points
Third- KUCTE, Kayamkulam with 46 points
The quiz competition ended by 3.30 pm with the National Anthem.

3. Debate Competition
On June 16, 2016 a Debate competition was conducted for the students of Higher
Secondary Schools. The students from Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School and Govt.
Girls Higher Secondary School participated in the debate. The topic for the debate was
„Measures Undertaken for Effective Nature Conservation‟.
The debate started at 2.00 pm. The students who participated in the debate
competition are as follows.
1. Haripriya - +2 Science
2. Revathy - +2 Science
3. Ganga - +2 Humanities
4. Gopika - +2 Commerce
5. Bhagya Lekshmi - +2 Humanities
6. Vishnu - +2 Humanities
7. Drisya - +2 Science
8. Keerthana - +2 Science
The judges of the debate competition were Rani Rajan, Asst. Prof.in Social Science,
KUCTE, Kayamkulam and Hemalatha.T, Asst. Prof. in Natural Science, KUCTE,

Kayamkulam. All the participants actively participated in the competition. The result of
the competition was announced by Dr. Smitha J.M, Asst. Prof in General Education.
The best debater from the students who talked in favor of the topic was Vishnu from
Govt. Boys H.S.S, Kayamkulam. The best debater from the students against the topic
was Drisya Unni, Govt. Boys. H.S.S, Kayamkulam and the runner up was Revathy,
Girls H.S.S, Kayamkulam. The debate competition come to a close by a speech by Rani
Rajan, Asst. Prof. in Social Science, KUCTE, Kayamkulam.

4. One-day Seminar
On June 17th, a seminar was conducted at KUCTE, Kayamkulam on the topic
“Preserve our Nature…… for future generations”. The seminar was organized by Kerala
University College of Teacher Education, Kayamkulam and supported by the Kerala
State Council for Science Technology and Education. The programme started by 9.30
am with a prayer song by the College choir team. The programme was anchored by
Chinchu Mol T., Hindi optional. The programme co-ordinator was Smt. Anupama
V.S., Asst. Prof. in Hindi, KUCTE, Kayamkulam.
The welcome speech was delivered by Smt. Anupama V.S., Programme Co-
ordiator. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Sunith Kumar G. N., Principal,
KUCTE, Kayamkulam and the Inaugural address was given by Prof. Abraham Thomas,
Associate Professor Peet Memorial Training College, Mavelikara, WWF India
Coordinator Alappuzha District. The felicitation was given by Smt. Sherly Kutty T
Molikkal, Principal Govt.H. S. S, Kayamkulam and Dri Nidhin Ratheesh, Chairman
College Union, KUCTE, Kayamkulam. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.Smitha

J.M, Asst. Prof. in General Education. After the vote of thanks trees were planted in the
campus.

By 11.00 am the first thematic session of the seminar began. The first session was
handled by Prof. Abraham Thomas, Associate Professor, Peet Memorial Training
College, Mavelikara. WWF, India coordinator Alappuzha District. Abraham Thomas
sir had taken class about the importance of nature, values of nature, wild life acts and
also about eco restoration.

The second thematic session was from 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm and the session was
handled by Smt. Lekshmi N.U, Asst. prof., Sree Ayyappa College for Women,
Chunkandai, Nagarcoil. The topic was “Eco Aesthetics: The Need of the Hour”.
Dr. Lakshmi explained about Nature - Aesthetics, importance of Nature citing some
literature. The second thematic session ended by 1.00pm.

After the thematic session there was lunch break.
After the lunch break the third thematic session began by 2.00 pm. The third session
was handled by Dr. Joju John, Asst. Prof., Mar Theophilis Training College, Nalanchira,
Thiruvanamthapuram. The class was on the topic “Inner equilibrium to Nature
Equilibrium”. The class was very interesting and sir taught about the qualities of a good
teacher. He included lot of activities in the class. He concluded his class by saying that
only teacher can mold the behavior of a student and also protect the nature because
Nature of our Future depends on the future of our nature.

After the thematic sessions, the prizes were distributed. For the winners of painting
competition the prize was distributed by Dr. Joju John, Asst. Prof., Mar Theophilis
Training College, Nalanchira, Thiruvanamthapuram. The prize for the quiz
competition was distributed by Smt. Lakshmi N. U., Asst. Prof., Sree Ayyappa College
for women, Nagarcoil. The prize for the debate competition was given by Sri. Murali
Das. J, Faculty in Education . After the distribution of prize, Dr. Sunith Kumar.G.N,
Principal, KUCTE, Kayamkulam distributed the certificate for the students of KUCTE,
Kayamkulam.
The seminar came to a close at 4.00 pm with the National Anthem.

Overall, the programme happened to be a great success. The programme was
able to impart a first-hand knowledge about adverse effects of harming the
environment and its‟ far reaching consequences on the future life on our Planet,
to the Prospective Teachers who are crucial in spreading the knowledge to the
generations to come.
In this juncture, all the staff and students of KUCTE, Kayamkulam expresses our
