Report of the 6 th A1-HRD meeting held in Daejeon, Korea! The 6 th A1-HRD meeting was held in Daejeon, Korea, from October 30 to November 1, 2013. The host of this meeting was Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water), and the main topic was “Expert training programs in waterworks” consisting of presentations, a question and answer session, and discussions. Participating waterworks utilities are as follows. The next meeting will be held in Bangkok, Thailand next year. Participating waterworks utilities (Taiwan) Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC) (Thailand) Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) (Korea) The Office of Waterworks, Seoul Metropolitan Government Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) (Japan) Bureau of Waterworks, Tokyo Metropolitan Government A total of 27 participants from five waterworks utilities from four countries and regions took part in the meeting. Each waterworks utility made presentations outlining issues and initiatives that they run related to the meeting topic, followed by a question and answer session. After the presentations were made, time was made available for participants to discuss topics that interested them, with the main topics being “Non-revenue water management” as raised by MWA of Thailand, and “training of international human resources” as suggested by the Bureau of Waterworks, Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Participants also aired their views on the future operation of the meetings, and agreed to talk about to more technical oriented topics while retaining a key focus on human resources training. Participants also proposed moving to a 2-session meeting, and the next meeting will be held over two sessions to discuss two separate topics. Tours of K-water Academy facilities were also conducted, including tours of the water quality management center, water resource management center and Daecheong Dam. What is the most important factor for being selected? ★ (for waterworks utilities with a focus on Non-revenue water management) What type of training is available, and how many courses are provided? ★ Please provide information on new training sessions at each waterworks utility. ★ What type of training or lecturer education is available for each training lecturer? ★ Measures against non-revenue water is one of the most important matters for our waterworks utilities. We would like to hear about initiatives taken by more advanced waterworks utilities to prevent water leakage.
