2014-2015 Annual Participation

The Country School received more than $500,000 in 579 gifts from some 350 donors who supported all

fundraising initiatives. Current families contributed about 40% of the total funds raised, followed by

Trustees at 19%, Foundations at 17.9%, Grandparents at 8%, Alumni at 5.6%, Former Trustees at 4.6%,

Parents of Alumni and Corporations/Businesses each at about 1.8%, and Faculty, Administration, Staff,

and other Supporters at 1.3%. Congratulations and thank you to all!

Keeping the Founders’ Promise through Scholarship and Endowment Gifts

By donating to the Founders’ Promise Fund (FPF) for Scholarship or one of its three endowment (FPF

Endowment, David and Marcia MacLane Endowment for Scholarship, and the Class of 2014 Endowment

for Scholarship), you give more and more students the opportunity to maintain that open atmosphere of

learning that our founders envisioned 60 years ago. These gifts help make The Country School

affordable for a wide range of children, bringing to our community the many benefits of social and

economic diversity. In 2014-2015, 27.5% of our students benefited from your generosity and received an

education that will last a lifetime. In the future, we hope and expect that today’s recipients of funds will

The David and Marcia MacLane Endowment for Scholarship−In Honor of Our First Head of School

For the third year in a row, Duncan MacLane '64 and his wife JoAnn, issued a challenge grant for the

David and Marcia MacLane Endowment for Scholarship, established to honor the memory of his parents

who were integral in helping to establish the values of a Country School education. An overwhelming

response triggered a second challenge from Jeff Burt '61 P '00, '03 and his wife Allee P '00, '03 to bring

the goal to $65,000. We are excited to report that 58 donors contributed $65,158 towards the MacLane

Endowment! This year marked the first year that we awarded scholarships from the MacLane

Endowment−four MacLane Scholars received tuition assistance from a portion of this endowment. We

are most grateful for your support.

The Class of 2014 established this endowment as a way to give back to The Country School and share

their experiences of active learning, spirited teaching, and individual attention and growth with another

Golf and Tennis Classic 2015

This year’s classic added an exciting new component to help raise money for scholarship−tennis! Pine

Orchard Yacht and Country Club hosted this year’s golfing event and due to the weather, Guilford

Racquet and Swim Club, generously donated their courts to our tennis players. The event, held on June

1, generated $27,455 in revenue, and proceeds benefited the Founders’ Promise Fund for Scholarship.

and commitment to this event, and the players, sponsors , and volunteers who made the Classic

successful and provided funds to make it possible for students to attend The Country School who

Spring Gala 2015−The Journey

This year’s Spring Gala—The Journey—was an evening filled with friendship, laughter, and all around

fun. We welcomed some 140 current parents, faculty members, trustees, former trustees, and alumni to

our unique venue at Madison Chrysler Jeep Dodge on April 25.

Through the generosity of supporters like you and other donors, $65,000+ was donated to benefit the

annual fund and financial aid scholarships. Our co-chairs, Dana and Anthony Uzwiak P ’17, ’18 and Lynn

and Jeff Haversat P ’11, ’15 along with Parent Teacher Association President Suzanne Sliker P ’22, ’29

and their volunteers, worked tirelessly in front of and behind the scenes to fulfill their vision of achieving

an event like no other. And they certainly succeeded!

Harvest Gathering

The Harvest Gathering on October 24, 2014 at Saddle Ranch Farms in Madison was successful in building

community spirit among current families, parents of alumni, Board members, faculty and staff, and even

a few prospective parents. Due to the generosity and vision of Katherine and Steven Pacholyk, a handful

of substantial parent donors, the Harvest Committee, and the vendors who provided their goods and

services for the evening, we were able to keep costs to a minimum and so all proceeds generated from

the Harvest Gathering benefited this year’s Annual Fund. We thank you all for supporting this evening of

Class of 2015 Gift

The 8th grade students this year chose a renovation of the foyer of the DeFrancis Gymnasium along with

an upgrade to the girls’ locker room as their legacy gift to The Country School. The project included a

beautiful lit showcase for the many awards presented to our athletes and teams, new flooring and

ceiling, and dozens of cubbies in the gym. The refurbishment looks wonderful and has captured the

attention of all visitors to campus since the unveiling in March. We could not have initiated and

completed this project without the generosity of the Class of 2015, their parents, grandparents,

relatives, and friends. Thank you all!

Shaping the Future−The Campaign for the 60th Anniversary

The 60th Anniversary of The Country School is an exciting time for our community. To celebrate this

milestone, the Board of Trustees launched a campaign to shape our campus and our school’s future.

Because of the early generosity and commitment of a handful of donors, we were able to begin our

ambitious capital improvements this past summer with the expansion of the athletic fields to include

two side-by-side fields and a baseball and softball field with backstop. Continued success of the

campaign will allow us to rework the campus infrastructure to create a pedestrian “village for learning”

by moving vehicles and parking away from the center of campus; rethink collaborative spaces to

facilitate interactive activities; upgrade the entrances to campus and campus buildings to reflect the

excellence of our program; create a permanent endowment to benefit faculty and staff salaries and

retirement contributions; and substantially increase the funds earmarked for scholarship.

We are so appreciative and thankful to the following donors for their timely pledges and gifts, which

allowed work on the campus transformation to begin before we opened our doors for the 60th “first day

of school.” As the campaign continues for the next two years, we know we will be celebrating even

more donors for their generosity and commitment.
