Pushpadevi Dugad Memorial Rapid Chess Tournament was conducted in 3 categories namely Open, Under 14 and Under 10. Total 44 prizes with a total cash prize fund of Rs. 10,000/- and glittering trophies and Medals were distributed the three categories combined. To prevent delay in the schedule, inauguration was conducted in the morning at 7:30 a.m by Mr. Kirtiraj Manikchand Dugad and Mr. Pramod Manikchand Dugad. We have provided the players with Breakfast and Tea in the Morning and Tea in the evening. Also, all the players were gifted a copy of the Book of Laws of Chess in Marathi authored by IA Nitin Shenvi. The tournament saw a record 292 registrations of which 285 players actually participated. During the event, also an announcement was made that Monish Sports World has recently been approved as an Authorised DGT Service Center. In the Open Category, Soham Datar was in form scoring 5/5 points and had beat top seed Chinmay Kulkarni in the 5 th round. But in 6 th round he lost to Ranveer Mohite who before the game was 1/2 point

The Late Sou. Pushpadevi Dugad Memorial Rapid Chess
Tournament was conducted in 3 categories namely Open, Under 14 and

behind him. Ranveer went on to beat Chinmay Kulkarni in round 7 and
agreed to a quick draw in round 8 ensuring him the glittering
Champion’s Trophy and Cash Prize of Rs. 3,000/-. Ranveer has been
quite on a roll in the last 2 weeks considering his absence from the
Chess Arena for some time as he was also runner up at Pune District
Under 19 Open Tournament recently.
In the Under 14 Category unrated player Varad Kabra seemed
determined to win the Championship having scored a 6/6 full point but
in the 7th round he lost to Abhishek Patil by making an illegal move. In
the 8th round he had to share point with Riya Marathe whereas Chetan
Pote defeated Abhishek Patil and won the event whereas Varad Kabra
was the runner-up.
In the Under 10 Category Shivraj Pingale and Anuj Dandekar led
with 6/6 and faced each other in round 7. They agreed to a draw in
round 7 and saved their energy for the final encounter. In round 8 both
won their matches and were tied for top spot but better tie-break led to
Shivraj being the Champion.
The Tie-breaks applied for the event were Direct Encounter, Number
of Victories, Buccholz Cut 1, Buccholz and Sonneborn Berger. The
Prize Distribution function had representatives from Dugad Group,
Saraswat Bank and Chief Arbiter Mohit Shenvi on stage. In the Open
Category, the Best Veteran Prize was won by Bhoite Krishna from
Junnar and Best Female Prize was won by Rutuja Kapdekar. In the
Under 14 Category Abhishek Patil won the Championship for Under 12
subgroup. Similarly in Under 10 Category Anuj Dandekar won the
Championship for Under 8 subgroup.
