2013Report
2013 was a challenging year for Abantia, shaped in the main
by successive regulatory changes affecting Renewable
Energies which slowed the applied engineering operations
in which we were engaged in this field in Spain practically
to a halt. Meanwhile, the investments in solar power plants
which we have in place in the country, above all the hybrid
biomass/solar thermal facility at Les Borges Blanques,
required inputs of cash rather than generating resources
during the year.
As a result of the above, a series of cost-saving measures
have been implemented to place the breakeven point at
€178M. Meanwhile, our commercial capacity has been
strengthened, above all outside of Spain, in order to increase
revenue by 18% in 2014.
In human resources terms, the workforce at 31 December
was 1,936 people, 4.3% fewer than a year earlier. 20% of
them work outside Spain.
The gross operating profit was 5 million euros.
As for the order book expected to be implemented over the
forthcoming 12 months, this stood at 31/12/13 at 157 million,
representing an increase of 20% compared with the figure
for the previous year, providing the basis for an economic
forecast for 2014 of 18% growth and revenue of 216 million
euros.
Of the order book at the start of 2014, 48% is international,
demonstrating that the measures adopted to diversify the
group’s operations geographically are bearing fruit.
Particular mention should be made of the first contract
awarded by Ecopetrol in Barrancabermeja, Colombia, along
with a contract from Enel Green Power in Chile for the
construction of a 36 MW solar photovoltaic power plant.
Contracts have continued to be secured in Peru and Mexico
in the Oil & Gas sector with Pemex, Calidda and Repsol, while
contracts have been signed in Haiti for the construction of a
hospital in Jacmel, and construction of 10 schools around the
country has also begun.
Likewise of note are the various contracts won in in both
the hospitals and the tertiary and residential sectors. The
country is revealing strong operational growth making us
hopeful of very positive prospects.
In Spain a number of operational lines have now been
implemented and consolidated, in particular tank and
puncture and shutdown operations in the Oil & Gas sector,
and the substations installed for Casa Tarradellas, Iberpotash
and LERSA. Automation operations have also expanded in
the automotive sector, with work performed for Opel and
Mercedes-Benz in Spain, and BMW and Volkswagen in the
United Kingdom, Netherlands and Germany.
In conclusion, 2013 was a year of hard work for the future,
which will allow us to resume a path of growth.
