After 4 years of fighting the first world war ended in

November 1918. 18 million people died in that war.

after the battles of the first world war

A soldier John McCrae was inspired by the sight of poppies

to write a poem called 'In Flanders Fields'.

After the First World War, the poppy was adopted as a

symbol of Remembrance.

Every year on the 11th of november politicians, the royal family and

veterans lay wreaths at the Cenotaph in London.
