Today’s theme is “For the LordDelights in You”. Two weeks agowe emphasized the visit of the threewise men to the infant king. Lastweekend we celebrated the Baptism of our Lord, another of the three occurrences of the Epiphanyand today’s gospel provides us with the third, thechanging of water into wine at the Wedding Feastat Cana.

In the Gospel of John, where the passage ofthe wedding feast is found, Jesus had not yet

performed any miracles. Mary tells Jesus thatthere is no wine. Imagine how embarrassed thegroom’s family would be. And Jesus responds tohis mother, “How does your concern affect me?My hour has not yet come.” Jesus then instructsthem to fill some jugs with water that is used forJewish ceremonial washings and turns He it intofine wine, thus revealing His glory and giving usour first inkling of who He is.

    Today’s gospel presents the extraordinary

transformation of the world begun at Cana inGalilee. The transformation took place because people trusted in the Word of the Lord. Our blessed mother, Mary, instructed the servers, “Dowhatever He tells you.” Trust, trust, and trustsome more. Trust that God loves us all; God lovesus individually; God delights in each of us.

Our society may have many evils and ills, andmay have seemingly abandoned God, but God isunchanging, and today’s readings tell us that we

don’t need to be negative. The miracle at Cana isan epiphany. The savior of the world has come, and just as he transformed water into wine, andwine into His blood, He is transforming our worldinto the Kingdom of God. So rejoice, for the Lorddelights in you!

    God bless you,

    Deacon George

    MERCY CHANGES US

Mercy is a word that can change

    everything, including the world.

Mercy. It’s such a simple word and yet so filled

with meaning and dimension that it can leave us

dumb-founded. But we all know it’s one of PopeFrancis’ favorite words, and he says it changes

everything. What would change if we began

thinking of mercy as our guiding principle for

life and faith? What would change if we actually became mercy for everyone we meet? And what

would change if we began by being merciful with

    ourselves?

Ponder: What would a life based in mercy look

like? How will it change me? How will it change

    the world?

Pray: Lord, guide me in your way. Open my eyes

to see Your love and mercy, and help me bring

    these gifts to others. Amen

abortion. The liturgical celebrations for this day may be the Mass“For Giving Thanks to God for the Gift of Human Life”
