Release Notes - Chalkable Classroom v2202
Release Overview The following is a list of enhancements and modifications in Chalkable Classroom v2202.
Enhancements • Added the ability for a district to manage messaging permissions between students and teachers in Chalkable
Classroom (this feature requires InformationNOW service build HF01934_19127). This is a district-wide setting.
Note: A user must already have permission to Administer Chalkable in order to access the Go To Admin Portal menu option. A user must now also be granted a new permission, Maintain Chalkable District Settings, to access the new settings option under the admin portal. To grant a user this permission, go to System Preferences | Permission Maintenance in InformationNOW. Select the user group to be granted permission. Under the Chalkable section check the Maintain Chalkable District Services box. Click Apply to save the changes.
Once the user has been granted the appropriate permission, go to Chalkable Classroom and click the user name in the upper right hand corner. Select Go To Admin Portal. Click the new Settings tab on the left. Select the desired options for messaging.
o Only allow students in the same classes to message each other
o Allow teacher to student messaging
o Only allow teachers to message students in their classes
• Added the ability to send messages to a group of students who are scheduled in a course section. To view this change, go to Messages | New Message. In the To field, type a partial name of the class. A list will display of all students and also all sections whose Short Name field matches the search criteria. For example, entering eng in the To field will return a list of students whose first or last name contains “eng” followed by any course sections with eng in the short name such as English 9 and Honors English 9.
Select the desired course section from the list. Enter the Subject and Body of the message. When the user clicks Send Message, the message will be sent to all students who are currently enrolled in the selected section.
• The Lesson Plan Gallery will now be only available to study center users with the v.2202 update.
Modifications The following known issues have been addressed in this version of Chalkable Classroom.
• Corrected an issue where the user was not able to select Exempt on a final term/semester grade even though it had been marked as Allow Exemption.
Note: A grade can only be marked as Exempt if the graded item has been set to Allow Exemption. Go to InformationNOW | System Preferences | Setup. Select Grading Periods and the term and click Refresh. Click to view the grading period where a graded item exists that can be exempted (i.e. a semester final exam). Click to view the graded item and verify that Allow Exemption is checked.
If a student is exempt from a graded item, in Chalkable Classroom go to the Grades tab. Select the class. With the correct grading period selected click the Final Grades tab. Select the graded item from which students can be exempt (i.e. a semester exam). Right click in the score field next to a student and check Exempt.
• When saving a lesson plan to the gallery with the same name as an existing lesson plan, the user will receive an
error message.
Click Continue to overwrite the existing lesson plan. Click No to return to the previous screen and rename the lesson plan.
• Corrected a grammatical error on the message that displayed when a user tried to enter a lesson plan with an invalid date range.
• When logged into the Admin Portal, the user may use the Feed Tools to search for an announcement. Prior to the v.2202 update, if the user changed the start/end date range and then tried to go back and modify the date range, the view would not display the correct range of announcements. This has now been corrected.
• Prior to the v.2202 update, if a user was on the Feed tab and used the Feed Tools option to filter the list to All Activities and selected to Mark Done items that were older than 30 days, all activities were being marked done – not just those that were older than 30 days. This has been corrected. Now if a user selects to view All Activities and selects the Mark Done option of Items older than 30 days, only items that are older than 30 days will be marked as done.
• Prior to the v.2202 update, if a user was on the Feed tab and used the Feed Tools option to Mark Done and selected All Items, not all items were being marked done. This has been corrected. Now if a user selects to Mark Done and chooses All Items, all items in the current view will be marked as done.
• Corrected an issue where inactive standards displayed when a user was attaching standards to an item.
• A section that has been defined to show both alpha and numeric grades will now display both. To view this change, go to the Grades tab. Select a class. The grades grid view will now display both alpha and numeric for classes that are marked to Display Letter Grade.
Note: The class must be set to Display Letter Grade. Go to Settings | Setup. Click Options and select the class. Verify that Display Letter Grade is checked.
• Corrected an issue where a category that was added for one class would display for other classes. For example,
a teacher would go to Settings | Setup | Categories, select a class and add a new category. When the user then went to the New Item tab and added a new item for a different class, the newly added category would display as a tab even though that category was not assigned to that class.
In the below example, Quiz was not a category that had been added to the English class but was still showing as a tab when a new item was added for that class. This is now corrected.
• Corrected an issue where some students received an error when accessing Learning Earnings from Chalkable
Classroom.
• Corrected an issue where students were showing as active in special education even though they had an expired IEP date.
• From the Student Profile screen, when a user selects the Grading tab, the drop-down arrows next to grading periods now performs as designed to open/close a grading period view.
• Corrected an issue for the Calendar tab where, when a user selected a date in the Month view, the option to add a New Item did not display. The New Item option now displays.
• Corrected an issue where, from the home portal, if the student selected the Calendar tab month view and
clicked on a date, an option would display to add a New Item.
• Corrected an issue where, when trying to access Chalkable Classroom from the direct login page, students occasionally received an invalid email error message.
• Corrected an issue where, after messaging was disabled, a user was still able to respond to messages under the
notification drop list in the upper right hand corner.
• If a student comments on an assessment that is mass assigned to a group of students from the Admin Portal,
those comments/questions will now display when the user who sent the assessment logs in to the Admin Portal. For an Admin Portal user, if the student sent a question via the assessment, a notification will display in the notifications area. The Admin Portal user may also click the item from the Admin Portal Feed tab to view comments.
