Janam XM-65 Use these instructions if you are installing the Janam XM-65 or 66. If you have used a Windows® Mobile® device, these instructions may be familiar to you.
Install Microsoft® Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Center Note: If you already have ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center installed for another device, you should be able to start at step 6. If you are using ActiveSync, be sure you are using ActiveSync 4.5 or later. Note: If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will use Windows Mobile Device Center. If you are using Windows XP, you will use ActiveSync 1. Insert the CD-Rom labeled Fixed Asset Tracking System Release 6. 2. If you are using Vista or Windows 7, go to Start and then click Computer and navigate to the
CD Rom drive. If you are on Windows XP, go to Start and then click on My Computer. 3. Open the folder WinMobile_Setup_Janam 4. If you are using Window XP, double-click on MSActiveSync45Setup.msi. If you are running
Vista or Windows 7 on a 32-bit operating system then double-click on drvupdate-x86.exe and if you are on a 64-bit operating system double-click on drvupdate-amd64.exe.
**If you are running Windows XP then skip to the section “For Windows XP users” and if you are running Vista or Windows 7 then skip to the section “For Vista and 7 users” for the rest of the installation.
For Windows XP users 5. Follow the install prompts. 6. It will prompt you to connect cradle to the PC, insert the scanner and turn it on. 7. When you see the Set Up a Partnership dialog, choose Standard Partnership. (If the system
prompts you to re-start, wait until after setting up the partnership)
9. Clear all of the items in this box, unless you want to synchronize with Outlook. (NOTE: we do
not provide technical support for the use of this device as a Personal Data Assistant (PDA). It is possible to use it as a PDA, but it does not fall under the scope of our tech support.)
10. ActiveSync will display and synchronize for the first time.
11. Restart your PC if the ActiveSync Installer® requests it. For Vista and 7 users 5. Follow the install prompts.
Installing the Scanner Applications on the Janam XM-65/66 This section will install applications on the hand-held scanner unit. The Janam cradle should be connected to your PC, and you installed the ActiveSync® software in the previous section. Make sure the scanner is inserted into its cradle. NOTE: do not remove the scanner from the cradle, or turn off the power on the scanner until the install process is complete.
1. Insert the CD-Rom labeled Fixed Asset Tracking System Release 6.
2. Click on Start and then click on Computer and navigate to the CD-Rom drive. 3. Open the folder WinMobile_Setup_Janam 4. Locate and double click on the file FATSR6_Winmobile_Setup.exe. Follow the prompts
to install the software. 5. Check the scanner. There may be prompts that require action. The Janam scanner may
prompt you to install the software on the “Device, Platform, or Application”. Choose “Device”.
Scanner Operation
How to launch FATS on your Janam scanner.
1. Turn your scanner on with the button located on the right corner on top of the scanner.
2. Tap the Start icon.
3. If you see FATS in this menu then click on it and FATS will open up. If you do not see it on this menu then
1. Press either one of the buttons on the side of the scanner or the big orange button below the screen to shine
the laser.
2. Point the laser at a barcode and have the green bar extend across the whole with a little more going past both ends of the barcode to quickly scan it.
