Nova’s Math Bible, Princeton’s 1014 problems, Manhattan

Analytical Writing

Create GRE account here (According to your Passport data) Register for GRE Take GRE

Take TOEFL/IELTS in the same time period

for IELTS Cambridge IELTS (4-8) enough, use Road To IELTS

Advantage of taking GRE early: Rolling Admission schools!!

First come first admitted at such schools

Early application ensures your place there, less competition

Email professors mentioning your research publications, GRE, TOEFL/IELTS, CGPA etc

Make a Hitlist of professors: make an Excel sheet

Search varsity websites for detail deadlines

Deadline for applying for financial assistance is earlier than the general application deadline

Emailing professors is an art!

It’s like a letter to impress your crush!

Be creative with email’s Subject

It stands your email out of hundreds of other similar emails

I used this email subject: Expression of Interest for research in your team

In my case, nearly every professor replied!

Use hyperlinks in email to link to your supervisor’s website, your publications

Make your thesis and CV available in Google Drive and hyperlink to it

Use Google’s Signature option to show your identity

Select the varsities where you received positive responses from professors

Good responses are short, few lines, to the point!

Profs have no time for writing long emails

Long emails means prof sent you automatic responses

Choose 7-12 schools

Write your Statement of Purpose / Research Intent / Personal Statement

Make it different, tell “your story”

Originality makes it stand out, do not copy others

500-600 words, shorter the better, paragraph structure, linking words/phrases

Achievements, special strengths

reason for not-so-good results

If admission offered but no funding: ACT NOW!!!

Call professors (learn about prof’s research activities before calling)

Tell your identity, mention your previous emails and her/his responses

Spell your name!!! (Might help him search for your email)

Request to view your previous emails.

Ask if any funding is available or RA/TA position open

Ask if s/he will consider you (s/he might say yes if impressed by your email and smooth-talking)

Congratulation if you can convince for RA/TA position!!

USA: Congratulations! I-20 form and offer letter mailed to you

Ask the school to send these papers by DHL/FedEx, 3days delivery (DHL better)

Regular UPS mail takes 1-1.5 months

Pay SEVIS Fee, take print out

Fill up DS-160 form online and take a print out

Photograph 2”x2”

Go to Saimon Center for VISA application

Get VISA interview date

Get VISA!!!
