Impact sound insulation on terraces, patios and roof terraces is often neglected or overlooked. And yet, it is just as important as indoor sound insulation, because structure-borne sound is transmitted from the outside patio to the building interior. Regupol® sound and drain 22, an impact sound insulation membrane specially developed for external surfaces, meets all demands expected of highly effective impact sound insulation, while simultaneously providing the additional functions of rain-water drainage and sealing protection.

ON CONCRETE CEILINGS UNDER FLAGSTONES OR WOODEN DECKING. «

Walkable roof terraces above living and recreational spaces often need impact sound insulation because sound proofing requirements have to be met here, too. For the verification of architectural acoustics, however, planners often have no reliab-le data to fall back on, as the usual standardized impact sound materials are mostly unsuitable for outside applications.

With its new material Regupol® sound and drain 22, BSW can provide quality controlled impact sound insulation, which is suitable for outdoor use and guarantees effective acoustic results in a range of different structures. In some cases, the acoustic testing undertaken for this new material included the use of thermal insulation in the substructure to reproduce practical conditions as closely as possible.

In addition to providing impact sound insulation, Regupol® sound and drain 22 also serves as a protective layer to prevent damage to the sealing.

ON CONCRETE CEILING UNDER PEDESTALS. «

The pedestals on terrace floors do not normally have any im-pact sound insulating function but rather act as sound bridges on the ceiling of the building. For this reason, terrace floors laid on pedestals also need to be insulated against impact sound. In such cases, it makes sense to install the entire pedestal floor structure on a continuous impact sound insulation layer. Insulating the entire surface also contributes to the building’s structural protection by preventing damage to the roof sealing, which can easily occur during repair and maintenance work on the floor structure.

Just as it does with large, flat terrace floors, Regupol® sound and drain 22 does a reliable job here, too. Under the point load pressure exerted by the pedestals, its robust material consisten-cy suffers no damage and fully maintains its sound insulating qualities. Regupol® sound and drain 22 is fundamentally suita-ble for use with all pedestals of sufficient stability.

BSW works together with the Belgian company Buzon, the market leader for adjustable pedestals. During the development phase, pedestals with a diameter of 200 mm were used. The material composition, dimensioning and die acoustic testing were all developed using Buzon pedestals.

Regupol® sound and drain 22 with Schöck Isokorb®

for balconies and pergolas

For balconies and pergolas, Regupol® sound and drain 22 is frequently used in combination with the Schock Isokorb® XT.

The impact sound level for the Schock Isokorb® XT in a system combined with Regupol® sound and drain 22 was determined by an independent institute. The results of the acoustic exami-nations are available on request.

BSW‘s Regupol® sound and drain 22 is a quality-controlled impact sound insulation for outdoor application which achieves extremely good acoustic results with a range of different super-structures.

Regupol® sound and drain 22 is moisture-resistant, largely rot-proof and allows water to drain away quickly. A geotextile membrane on the top surface prevents dirt penetration, which enables the outstanding acoustic performance of 28 to 37 dB impact sound reduction to be maintained in the long term.

As Regupol® sound and drain 22 is very resilient, it also serves as a protective layer, helping to prevent damage to the roof sealing.

The impact sound reduction provided by Regupol® sound and drain 22 was tested in realistic conditions in six practical t errace fl oor constructions.

The compatibility of Regupol® sound and drain 22 wit PVC-containing seals must be tested in each individual case.To achieve suffi cient levels of fl oor structure stability, pressure-resistant thermal insulation must be used.

Before laying concrete fl agstones on a bed of fi ne chippings, a fl agstone surface should be laid fi rst as a test-run to check its stability. This is because different mixtures of fi ne stone chip-pings can have different load bearing capacities.
