Chapter 1 General Provisions

Chapter 2 Entrance Quota
Article 3 (Entrance Quota Management) The entrance quotas of graduate school students (hereafter ‘students’) are categorized and determined by academic school year.
Article 4 (Change of Entrance Quota) Whenever a change in an admissions quota of any graduate school exceeds 30 students, approval by the Korea University Foundation, is required.
Article 5 (Detailed Enforcement Regulations) (1) Details of the admissions quota of the graduate schools shall be regulated through the Detailed Enforcement Regulations for the Fields of Study and Departments Established by the Graduate School and Entrance Quotas. (2) Details of the entrance quotas of contracted departments shall be regulated through the Detailed Enforcement Regulations Pertaining to Contracted Departments and Established Departments within the Graduate School and their Entrance Quotas.
Chapter 3 Leave of Absence and Return to School
Article 6 (Application of Regulations) Articles 17 and 18 of the Korea University Constitution and Articles 22 to 31 of the Regulations of the Academic Affairs of the Graduate School shall be applied with respect to leaves of absence and return to school, unless otherwise stipulated in theConstitution of the Graduate School or by an individual graduate school.
Article 7 (Period for Leaves of Absence) The period for leaves of absence shall be stipulated by each graduate school.
Article 8 (Enrollment) Details of enrollment may be stipulated by the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of individual graduate schools.
Article 9 (Registration Fees) (1) Students should pay the registration fees specified by KU during the period required for completion of the program. (2) Articles 38 to 41 of the Regulations of the Academic Affairs of the Graduate School shall be applied regarding registration fees. (3) Details of registration fees may be stipulated by the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of individual graduate schools.
Article 10 (Course Registration)(1) Course registration shall be conducted within the specified period following specified procedures.(2) Details with respect to course registration may be stipulated by the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of individual graduate schools.
Article 11 (Grades Representation) (1) Evaluation grades for courses shall be classified and indicated as follows. Grade Points
A+ 4.50 A 4.00 B+ 3.50 B 3.00 C+ 2.50 C 2.00 F 0.00 P No Score (Pass)S Satisfactory I No Score (Incomplete)
(2) According to the level of academic performance, grades are granted from A+ (highest) to F (lowest).(3) A grade of P (Pass) is granted in the event when a student passes a course that is subject to Pass/Fail evaluation. (4) A grade of S (Satisfactory) is granted when credits are acknowledged without grade point classification. (5) A grade of I (Incomplete) is granted when evaluation within the relevant semester is temporarily deferred. If the grade is not finalized within the specified period, grades of I are automatically converted to F grades. (6) The following grades will be considered as meriting credit acquisition.
1. Grades from A+ to C2. P and S
Chapter 5 Acquiring Credits and Degree Conferral
Article 12 (Maximum Credit Acquisition per Semester) The maximum number of credits that can be acquired per semester shall be regulated by each graduate school.
Article 13 (Minimum Credits Required for Completion of a Program) (1) The minimum credits required for completion of a program shall be regulated by each graduate school. (2) The grade average for all credits acquired for completion of a program should be at least 3.00. (3) Details regarding the management of additional courses required for the completion of a program is stipulated by the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of each Graduate School.
Article 14 (Time of Completion) A program is considered complete at the end of the final semester for that program.
Article 15 (Titles of Degrees) (1) The titles of degrees corresponding to the fields of study shall be determined by individual graduate schools or departments. (2) Details of degree titles are indicated in Appendix 1 (Titles of Graduate School Degrees). Details of degree titles awarded by contracted departments are indicated in Appendix 2 (Titles of Degrees of Contracted Departments).
Article 16 (Degrees and Certificates) (1) Those who acquire a master’s degree or doctoral degree shall be awarded the following degree as appropriate.
(2) Those who acquire a master’s degree that does not require a thesis shall be awarded the degree shown in Annex 5. (3) Those who are offered an honorary doctoral degree shall be awarded the following degree.
(4) Research students who complete a research course shall be awarded the certificate shown in Annex 8.
Chapter 6 Committees
Section 1 General Regulations
Article 17 (Types of Committees) The following committees are established to review matters regarding graduate schools.
1. Graduate School Committee: A committee established by each graduate school
2. Joint Graduate School Committee: The committee established to supervise and adjust matters regarding professional graduate schools and specialized graduate schools
Article 18 (Term of Committee Member) (1) The term of a member of a committee is 2 years with the exception of ex officio members. (2) Members may serve consecutive terms. (3) Members appointed to fill a vacant position shall serve the remaining term of the previous member.
Article 19 (Committee Management) (1) Graduate school committees and the Joint Graduate School Committee shall be convened by the chair. (2) The Regulations for the Establishment and Operation of Committees shall be applied regarding committee operations unless otherwise stipulated in the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of each graduate school.
Section 2 Graduate School Committee
Article 20 (Organization) (1) Graduate School Committees shall include the chair and more than seven members (four members in the event the size of the graduate school is not sufficient for seven members) who shall be appointed by the president of KU.(2) The dean of each graduate school shall become, ex officio, the chair of the Graduate School Committee of the relevant graduate school.
Article 21 (Function) Graduate School Committees shall deliberate the following matters of their respective graduate school.
1. Matters relating to admissions, completion, and conferment of degrees
2. Matters relating to the establishment and abolition of departments and programs, and student quotas
3. Matters relating to the curricula4. Matters relating to the enactment and amendment of school regulations5. Other matters deemed important for the management of that
graduate schoolArticle 22 (Delegation of Affairs and Graduate School Academic Committees)
(1) To enhance the effectiveness of academic affairs, the General Graduate School may delegate authority to individual colleges.(2) Each college shall establish its own Graduate School Academic Committee to facilitate the affairs delegated by the General Graduate School.
Section 3 Joint Graduate School Committee
Article 23 (Organization) (1) The Joint Graduate School Committee comprises the Provost & Executive Vice President, the dean of the General Graduate School, the dean of each professional graduate school, the dean of each specialized graduate school, the Vice President for Planning and Budget, and the Vice president for Academic Affairs. (2) The Provost & Executive Vice President is, ex officio, the chair of the Joint Graduate School Committee(3) The Office of Academic Affairs shall assume oversight and provide guidance for the operations of the Joint Graduate School Committee.
Article 24 (Function) The Joint Graduate School Committee reviews the following matters.
1. Matters relating to enactment and amendment of the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of professional graduate schools and specialized graduate schools
2. Matters relating to the establishment and abolition of departments and programs of professional graduate schools and specialized graduate schools
3. Matters relating to the student quotas of professional graduate schools and specialized graduate schools
4. Matters regarding the curricula of professional graduate schools and specialized graduate schools
5. Other matters deemed important for the management of professional graduate schools and specialized graduate schools
Supplementary Provisions
These regulations shall enter into effect on March 1, 2015.
Supplementary Provisions
1. (Date of Enforcement) These revised regulations shall enter into effect on September 1, 2015. (Appendix 1 and Appendix 2 of Article 6 are revised.)
