The Product’s Impact and the effect on the audience

There are two types of audiences, they are passive and active audiences. Passive audiences are the people who people who agree with is what is being said in the programme. For example when people watch Bad Education they watch it because for entertainment and the show is not accurate but that type of audience don’t care about that. Whereas active audience is the type of people to disagree what is put in the show. For example active audience with Bad Education would disagree with the show because it is not accurate.

The hypodermic theory is about passive audience and how the media effects the audience’s behaviour. The theory is about how passive all react in the a similar way. For example all 15 year olds find Bad Education funny and that’s how school is. The theory thinks that if it shows violence to people they will act violently or think violent behaviour is acceptable.

The cultivation theory is about passive audiences and how the media effects the audience's attitude. The theory is about what are the norms and the values of the culture. For example in the media they think that gay is not a norm and being straight is. The way they do this is repeated

Exposure. Repeated exposure is where the media keep repeating so people remember it easier. Uses and Gratifications is a theory about how the audience use the media.

There are 4 different types of uses Information, entertainment, identity and Relationships. For example Bad Education would be used for entertainment.

My chosen text would be Bad Education. Bad education would be for passive audiences this Is because the target audience for Bad Eduaction would be males and females aged 15 – 18 year olds. Most of these people would watch the show for entertainment and would not think bad of the show.

My programme could affect the audience behaviour because in the show Bad Eduaction the students can do what they want in the classroom and when they come to school the audience could think that their school is like Bad Education and they can behave in the same way. For example in Bad Education a student puts another students tie in the shredder, this could lead other students to do inappropriate act at school.

My programme could affect the audience beliefs and values. A way Bad Education is that in the show there is a guy student and this could change people beliefs about how gay people should be in the norm. However a negative belief they could change is that school is a joke. Bad education would be used for entertainment because of all the jokes and humour used in the show. Also the show is in the watershed time and that’s when the comedy and humour comes out in the programme.

Relevant issues of representation (Negative Youth)

Teenagers are being represented. They are being represented in a bad way for example it says

“Figures show more than half of the stories about teenage boys in national and regional newspapers in the past year (4,374 out of 8,629) were about crime.”

Its not accurate. (My Opinion). The independent. The purpose it to show that youth stereotypes are true and you

should believe what people say about how bad they are. This targets males and females aged around 30 – 50 years old

and classes C & D in the socio – economic table. Teenagers would respond negatively and completely disagree

with the article.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/hoodies-louts-scum-how-media-demonises-teenagers-1643964.html

Relevant issues of representation (Positive Youth) Teenagers are being represented. They are being represented in a good way. For example it

says “Believe it or not, not every single teenager around my age goes around beating up people and smashing up cars.”

Its accurate. (My Opinion). Independent Article The purpose it to show that youth stereotypes are not true

and you should not believe what people say. Target audience would be teenagers and people who think

badly of teenagers. Teenagers would respond in a positive way. People who think

badly might respond good or bad.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/behind-the-stereotypes-the-shocking-truth-about-teenagers-421295.html

Relevant issues of representation (Sexual Orientation)

Jan Moir blames Stephen Gately’s sexual orientation for his death.

This was done in a negative way. To get noticed, to make it more popular and so more people

would read the article. Yes some people said that Jan Moir is not human after that

article.

Relevant Legal and/or ethical issues

A BBC programme that has complained about is Top Gear. During the show Jeremy Clarkson used a racial slur which compromised a OFCOM rules. After all the complaints OFCOM came to a decision that the audience did not realise what the word meant so they did not punish the show in anyway.

Bad Education could create complaints by the public because in the show it shows teachers to be lazy and rubbish at their job, this could because the show is aired in the watershed and that’s when adults/teachers would watch TV.
