he Future of vertical flight is arriving quickly. This year will see advanced flight testing of innovative vertical takeoff and landing aircraft that promise transformative capabilities. The Joint Multi-Role (JMR) vehicles are demonstrating their capabilities for the US Department of Defense Future Vertical Lift (FVL) program, while scores of companies are exploring the revolutionary capabilities of electric and hybrid-electric VTOL with full-scale and sub-scale testing. Next generation manned and unmanned VTOL programs also are taking shape, harnessing novel approaches and advanced technologies.

The AHS Annual Forum & Technology Display is the ideal opportunity to understand the breadth and depth of the transformation taking place within vertical flight. This year’s 74th annual event — Forum 74 — takes place on May 15-17 and will present some 250 technical papers on advancements in every technical discipline from acoustics and aerodynamics to unmanned systems.

Forum 74 will explore emerging technologies and trends with executives from Airbus Helicopters, Bell, The Boeing Company, Leonardo Helicopters, and Sikorsky, as part of our annual Straight Talk from the Top panel. Top ranking US military officials will present their development plans and operational needs in the US Army and US Navy/Marine Corps Program Manager Briefings. Other special sessions include Advanced Air Vehicle Design, VTOL Challenge Prizes and Transformative Vertical Flight.

Pre-Forum activities on Monday, May 14 include Short Courses on Electric VTOL and Rotorcraft Modeling, as well as the 6th Annual Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) Student Challenge and more. Friday, May 18 will conclude the week with a tour of the Boeing Company rotorcraft production facilities on.

The AHS Annual Forum is the longest-running and most established vertical flight conference in the world. Running in parallel with the technical presentations, the Forum 74 Technology Display is the most extensive exposition addressing the needs of the vertical flight

industry. Forum attendees will see the very latest in vertical flight technology showcased by leading manufacturers, service providers, defense agencies, universities, and research and development organizations. Exhibitors will have unique access to the elite technical community responsible for directing engineering, research and development, and science and technology investments.

All of this will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona, “The Valley of the Sun.”

We look forward to seeing you in Phoenix!

Michael J. Hirschberg Executive Director
