Dear NUS Undergraduate, A very warm welcome to our NUS family! As the newest members of NUS’ diverse and talented community, you will be eager to know more about our University, as well as the various courses, programmes and opportunities that will help you develop academically and as a well-rounded person. NUS is widely recognised for its rigorous broad-based education, which is distinctive in several important ways. We provide a myriad of opportunities and academic pathways for our students to pursue their interests and to explore new areas which will stretch them academically and as individuals. The NUS student experience is one of the most globally-oriented amongst universities around the world. One in every two NUS students will have enriching overseas educational attachments. These include summer programmes, field trips, student conferences, overseas student exchange programmes, entrepreneurial internships at our NUS Overseas Colleges, and double-degree and joint-degree programmes with other top universities. Our undergraduates also have many options to be involved in cutting-edge research in a wide range of disciplines across our campus. I would also urge you to look beyond the academic possibilities, and to consider the vast and rich menu of intellectual, social and cultural activities and programmes. For instance, we have more than a hundred student organizations you could choose to participate in. For many students, the most memorable aspect of their NUS experience is living in one of our 6 Halls of Residence, each with its distinctive charms and traditions. Since August 2011, our University Town Residential Colleges have been offering a different and unique experience, which includes small-group residential college learning. I very much hope that you will take full advantage of the many opportunities open to you. I invite and strongly encourage you to participate fully in all aspects of campus life. The experiences you gain will not only be enjoyable and rewarding, but in the process, you will also acquire vital leadership and interpersonal skills which will serve you well in the future. Please look through this Registration Guide, and enjoy! With best wishes Tan Chorh Chuan ’83 President
