About the Institution Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam, a technical institution under the Government of Kerala, started functioning in the year 1991. Over the years, the institution has emerged as one of the premier institutes for technical education in the state with good infrastructure and a team of dedicated facul- ty and staff. Its alumni are spread all over the world as scientists, engineers, academicians, researchers and administrators. About the Department The Department of Electrical Engi- neering started in the year 1991. The depart- ment currently offers a B.Tech programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an M. Tech programme in Industrial Drives and Control. It is also a recognised QIP centre for doctoral programmes. Vision Be a centre of Technological excel- lence in Electrical and Electronics Engineer- ing for the betterment of the society. Mission • To bestow high quality education through excellence in its faculty and facilities. • To transform young minds into competent full-fledged professionals. • To nurture ethical values and invoke a pas- sion to serve the society. Eligibility of Participants The training programme is open to all faculty from various specializations from Government, Aided and Self-Financing En- gineering Colleges in the state.No course fee is charged to the faculty of Government and Aided colleges. An amount of Rs.1000/- will be charged from the faculty of self- financ- ing colleges. This amount may be paid at the time of registration. Course Contents The training programme will encom- pass lectures on foundations in Power con- verters and Drives required for engineering research and post-graduate level teaching. The course will cover the following topics • Modelling of machines & power convert- ers. • Control techniques for power converters. • Pulse Width Modulation techniques. • Design of power converters and control- lers.
