In the world of education, summer provides an opportunity to unwind a bit, to reflect on the past, and look toward the future. Marie, my spouse, and I recently traveled out west and visited many National Parks which provided more time for reflection and optimism for the future of our students. Often times I take for granted that we live in a beautiful country filled with opportunities for those who elect to pursue them. As a District, we are committed to making every attempt to funnel our students into an area of interest with an outlook for a successful future. Many of you have probably heard the phrase College and Career Ready as it relates to education. Beyond four year degrees, there are so many paths to a career and it’s fortunate that educators and parents have expanded their view on career planning and preparation, and are placing value in these additional paths. Our students have many opportunities to explore careers during their formative years, and businesses are eager to help out those that demonstrate passion and aptitude in their fields. We have made numerous curriculum updates in the past three years that allow our students to gain relevant experience as it relates to careers. We are fortunate to have local businesses that have provided mentorship and financial support to grow these programs to assist in producing students that are more prepared for the work force. The K-12 Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum, as stated on their website, provides our students an engaging, hands-on classroom envi- ronment and empowers our students to develop in demand knowledge and skills to thrive. Several individuals and businesses have reached out and are current partners in this initiative. In addition to these curriculum opportunities, we hope to expand our robotics participation be- yond the high school. While middle school students are currently involved in robotics, design, and modeling through their curriculum, addi- tional partnerships would assist in expanding our robotics team opportunities for children at the middle school level. I would welcome the op- portunity to provide more details if you have an interest in mentoring or providing financial assistance to sponsor a robotics team. The Lomira School District has always been fortunate to be supported by our area communities and new opportunities continue to develop as our world changes. This support truly benefits our children and allows them to be optimistic as they pursue their American dream. Little Lions Extended Care Program We are proud to have available Little Lions Extended Care Program. The district provides this high quality before and after school program that balances education with fun. Little Lions has a before and after school program at Lomira Elementary School and wrap around 4K program at Theresa Learning Community. All students are welcome to participate in this convenient and affordable program. If interested, please contact Heather Helsell at 920-269-4396 X117. REFERENDUM NOTES The School District of Lomira’s $24 million referendum was officially completed at the end of the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The District came in roughly $550,000 under budget. As a result of these savings, the District was able to reduce its tax levy by $100,000 in the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The District will continue to use the remaining $450,000 to reduce the tax levy in future years as needed. Also, new technology purchases will be made with remaining funds. In the world of education, summer provides an opportunity to unwind a bit, to reflect on the past, and look toward the future. Marie, my

of our students.

Beyond four year degrees, there are so

many paths to a career and it’s fortunate that educators and parents have expanded their view on career planning and preparation, and are

placing value in these additional paths. Our students have many opportunities to explore careers during their formative years, and businesses

three years that allow our students to gain relevant experience as it relates to careers. We are fortunate to have local businesses that have

provided mentorship and financial support to grow these programs to assist in producing students that are more prepared for the work force.

tional partnerships would assist in expanding our robotics team opportunities for children at the middle school level. I would welcome the op-

portunity to provide more details if you have an interest in mentoring or providing financial assistance to sponsor a robotics team.

Your child will be encouraged to participate in a play group where social, communication, motor and early learning skills will be observed. There will be hearing and vision screening for children ages 3 1/2 to 4. The screenings provide information on children’s growth and development, help build awareness of community resources and address concerns parents may have regarding personal development. The screenings also may help to identify children who may be in need of further assessment. We cordially invite you to participate in this free thirty minute screening of your child’s development. Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 8:30-12:00 p.m. at the Lomira Elementary School, 1030 Fourth Street Lomira, WI.
